Hi,

I'm looking for some advice in buying a Home Cinema set up......

I have a Samsung DVD player (N-105) with the capability for DTS. I am looking to get a good system to use with this and also a Nicam Toshiba TV, Sky Digital and Sony Hi Fi. I am looking to get ProLogic sound from the TV/Sky source.

Are there any systems which you would recommend? - I particularly like the look of the Sony kits that are around

Noddy question - I am guessing that you can set up the volume of each speaker, is this correct?

Thanks for your help!!

If I hadn't just splashed out on seperates, and was looking to get an all-in-one system, I'd go for

one of these

ProLogic II has only just been made available on kit of this sort of price, and well worth it. ProLogic basically just sent the same mono signal to both the rear speakers, whereas ProLogic II simulates the 5.1 surround sound you'd get from a dvd with any old stereo source. So Sky will benefit, as will ordinary cd's.

Depends. Certainly on a decent separate system you should be able to set speaker levels and distances independently (I have the rears up a notch to compensate for their being high up), although on budget or all-in-one systems you might have less freedom (eg. one setting for both rear speakers). Go for separates if you can, but then you're talking 300 for the amp, 500 for the speakers as a likely entry point.

Just about all players output DTS through the digital out, most amps now will do DTS and Prologic II - the Prologic II soundtrack is created by the amp from a bog standard stereo (prologic-encoded) feed.

Thanks guys. Looks like I will have some more investigations to do but this forum looks like the place to do it.

Cheers again

I would definitely look into getting an amp with a Prologic II decoder on board because it will bring your tv, Sky and video more to life and that cannot be a bad thing?

I have been happy with the Sony HTK 215 but if I was looking now I would be after the Prologic II and possible 6.1 sound systems.
