I received my Toppy on Saturday and I'm still smiling.

I have a question though. How is it possible that I can record 2 channels and watch a third with only 2 tuners. It doesn't make sense can somebody explain it, please.

Right I will have a go. Digital Tv is transmitted on 6 UHF channels. When used for digital these are called MUXs. If these where analogue they would each receive one channel. The wonder of Digital allows each of these channels or MUX to carry a number of TV/Radio stations; the MUX are called 1, 2, A, B, & C. Here they are;
http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/dtt_channels.html

So when you tune into BBC1 the tuner is actually picking up the information about all those channels on MUX1 but just displaying the BBC1 part.
So say you are recording ITV1 and BBC1 the tuners are recieving all those other stations on MUXs 1 & 2 as well. The Topfield (and the Humax) alone are capable of displaying them but all DTT STBs receive multiple channels.

Some of the above may even be correct. If not we will soon be told.

Richard

Edit what I dont understand is how analogue tuners do PIP.

This means you can watch any other channel that is being distributed on MUXs 1 & 2 but not one on any of the other MUXs. Channels on the other MUXs will be greyed out in the Channel list on the Toppy.

You need at least two analogue tuners or an alternative source (such as a pre-existing recording or scart input etc) to do analogue PIP.

I have an LG-RH7500 DVD/HDD recorder which does PIP but it only has one analogue tuner, so if you are watching something via the analogue tuner you can only PIP the scart inputs, or if you are watching an existing recording you can PIP the analogue tuner or the scart inputs.

You can do PIPIP with the Toppy and the right TV More sense to do PIP on the Toppy with a second PIP using the TV to keep track of the Wimbledon *and* the cricket while watching the matinee film.
