Looks like Cable and Wireless is attempting to save the job losses and prevent losing customers.

They have just started advertising their new revolutionary product: Active Voice

http://www.cw.com/uk/services/Active_voice.html

The service was introduced by Energis just before it got swept up by Cable and Wireless. A slight increase of revenue was seen when Cable and Wireless introduced 'Smart Talk' something which Telewest copied and called it 'Talk Anywhere' to residential users.

Is this the start of improvement?

It is a business product and not a residential product so will be pretty worthless to most.

Well, over the last 6/7 years, Cable and Wireless has been commited to providing the very best service for business customers.

It will probably have plans for its residential and business division; Bulldog Communications. Cable and Wireless has stated that it has no plans to give up its residential/Bulldog division which means it might focus more on residential users.

They made a big mistake when they sold off Mercury Personal Communications which traded as One2One and their residential sector which is now owned by NTL. Cable and Wireless did have choice to either keep its cable business and aquire Telewest or sell the whole lot to NTL which it did and the company has had a few problems.

Other takeovers by CW:

Guernsey Telecoms
Bulldog Communications
Energis

Which were all good moves, as Guernsey Telecoms is the pre-dominant telecoms provider in the baliwick of Guernsey, whats more, they have plans to provide mobile phone services in Jersey and already offer some kind of internet services.

I really don't know how they aren't doing so well though as they provide the following services too:

Tesco CPS homephone service
Post office homphone CPS service
O2's International GPRS service
Emergency services to 50% of the UK population
Operator assistance to 30% of the UK population
Call routing for NTL/Telewest
The physical network transmision for T-Mobile UK

And the following large corporations are customers of Cable and Wireless:

Norwich union
Loyds TSB
Tesco
High performance Alan&Alan
Go 3 online
Inland Revenue
Govermental departments
London Borough of Camden
Orange
Birimingham Midshires
Prudential
Transport for London

And many more!

They did loose a lot of business customers when they sold their cable business to NTL, Cable and Wireless connected many businesses to their old cable telephone network and then sold it to NTL.

They lost:

Powergen (Call centres ect...)
Infolines Public Networks (200 street payphones)
Lambeth Borough council (Customer service)
Telewest (Certain call centres outside telewest cabled area)
Virgin (Most Virgin companies)

Recently,Orange has teamed up with Cable and Wireless to provide CPS telephone services to business customers and is planned to aim at the residential sector in conjunction with the rebranding of Wanadoo. Vodafone has also required this service too.

So the future could be bright with Cable and Wireless.
