List Sky HD Bugs
Hi All,
I'm starting this thread so that people can list the "software" bugs they've found with Sky HD so far. Just use this thread to simply list the bugs you've found, and how to re-create them if at all possible, and if applicable if the bug occurs with SD, HD, or both. Please don't use this thread to moan or complain about Sky HD. Sky read these forums, and I think it would be good it we could just list the bugs, and let Sky go about fixing them... I'll start with the bugs I've had so far: Bug 1: Fast Forward (SD) - Cannot see any difference between 12x and 30x fast forward at all. On Sky+ the difference was obvious Bug 2: Fast Forward (SD and HD) - As an example, fast forwarding from 0 minutes of a programme at 30x speed, the minutes counter showed 2 minutes. Pressing play, and the programme played, but the counter showed 4 minutes for about 5 seconds, and then reverted back to 2 minutes, which was the correct value. This was repeatable at the time, but I've not been able to repeat it since. Bug 3: Playback and TV Listings - My wife got back from work, and went to play a programme recorded that day. After pressing play, the TV planner text and blue bars disappeared, but the Sky background remained, and in the background you could hear the program being played. But no play logo on screen either.. Also if you went to the TV guide, it just said "searching for listings please wait", and the same if you pressed the red button to list the HD channels.. Unplugging fixed it. Not repeatable either. Bug 4: No TV Listings - Went to main Sky screen, and pressed red for HD channels, then selected an HD channel, pressed TV Guide, pressed red, chose another HD channel, did this about 10 times, but quite quickly, as I was just scanning the HD channels to see what was there.. The box froze on the TV guide with a black screen, for about 20 seconds, and then came back to life, except that i could no longer see any TV listings, just got the dreaded "searching for listings please wait"... but of course it never found any. Had to unplug to fix it. So there's my bugs so far.. again please just use this thread to either add new bugs that you've found, or confirm that you've had one of the bugs already mentioned. Sky will see this thread, and if enough people report a particular error, they will investigate.. Thanks, Glenn |

[quote=GlennEdwards]Hi All,

I have found an issue where if I try to live pause (only seems to be on a HD channel) I am unable to press play. If I press fast forward, it goes back to live TV.

I have been very hapy so far, even through the england "b" match I was impressed with the performance and quality. I had noticed the fast forward bug - but - tonight after the england match, I had to take the baby to bed, I put her down and got back to the telly to see the interview with Sven nearly complete, so I used instand rewind ... ... except IT DIDNT WORK
just sat there with a frozen picture of what I had been viewing - not impressed .

Just had another new bug...
Sky HD box was dual recording two SD channels at about 9pm, and we'd just started playing a pre-recorded SD programme. We we're 1 minute in, and paused the programme. It was paused for maybe 5 minutes whilst we we're chatting. After the 5 minutes played was pressed to unpause. It just sat there, and refused to play. Nothing worked on the remote or the box. Stop, beckup, TV Guide etc..nothing. The blue circle was spinning like it was playing except it wasn't.. Had to unplug to fix it (again!!) That's twice tonight so far..and two different bugs.. Still I aint complaining..I'l just wait for SKy to investigate and fix them. The HD Picture is still awesome...(on my plasma it is anyway).. Glenn |

Mods, I think this thread should be a sticky? There is a long list of bugs with any product launch, and if both users and Sky can find this thread easily, we'll get them resolved quicker.
The more issues that can be resolved before my installation on 3rd June, the better.

The only problems i've noted are:
1 Fast Foreward/Rewind - this is flaky. If you hit the FF button a few times to get it up to 30x the system takes a few seconds to catch up with your keypresses - it's not as responsive as it was with Sky+. There isn't any difference between 12x and 30x. 2 When I was setting my Favourites, I pressed Back up (instead of Select as it tells you), the box froze and I had to unplug the power to get it going again. Only happened once. 3 When watching big brother the sound keeps cutting out, instead of the BB dialogue I get birds and/or aeroplanes. Most annoying. |

What happens if a recording was due to finish in the "leapfrogged" time? Is this responsible for recordings that do not automatically finish? I have noted that occasionally the epg update seems to freeze - is the clock update linked to the epg time? |

1. After setup by installer, couldn't get any listings - "please wait". installer said it may be slow for a couple of days. Reboot cured the problem.
2. Pause problem. I found that the only way to "unpause" is to press the pause button again - pressing play doesn't work. Strange. 3. Installer had set my system to 1080 before leaving, having connected up via scart - awaiting cable. When I inserted the cable, and selected HD, I got a panel saying "video mode not supported" and a blank screen. Went back to the scart output, and the setting was at "auto". Possibly setting wasn't persistant over the reboot? haven't tried to replicate. 4. Coudn't believe my panel (Philips 42PF7520D) couldn't cope with "auto" so set it to auto! Got the message about waiting for 10 secs - seemed ok. Backed out to channel which was viewable (145). changed chanel, got "video mode not supported" message. Changed back to HD channel - still got message. Had to reset resolution to 1080. 5. When fast forwarding, hit play, sound takes about 2 seconds longer than picture to "play" 6. FF/RW button doesn't toggle back to play - eg 2x -> 12x -> 30x -> 1x Regards Ian Last edited by SolidTechie : 26-05-2006 at 08:45. Reason: to add info for clarity |

If you can still hear birds/planes then there's nothing wrong with the sound being output by the box as that's all the sound that is being transmitted. |

Whatver is being said cant be broadcast for legal reasons. Anything to do with talking about people on "the outside". C4 could be held responsible if something slanderous is said and they broadcast it. Nothing wrong with your box |

Dual Record
One I noticed last night -
I had two recordings that overlapped on different channels. During the overlap I was in the EPG and went to select another channel (forgetting about the dual record). Message popped up saying about the dual record in progress. Then I tried to switch to one of the channels being recorded (Ch 5) and all I got was a blue screen and sound cutting in and out. Thinking the recording was buggering up I went back to the EPG and tried the other channel (Living) which should have just finished recording and got a blue screen and no sound! With visions of recording going out the window I went back to the EPG, waited for the recording on Living to finish and then all went back to normal. Both recordings are fine (phew!). But I thought I should be able to watch one of the channels while it is being recorded. |

I can unpause with either the pause button, or the play button, on both SD and HD recordings. FF/RW for me will toggle back to play as I cycle through the FF/RW speeds. One other interesting point, is that at the start of this thread I said I could see no difference in 12x and 30x speeds. This only seems to apply to SD recordings. I've just been watching a few HD recordings, and there is clearly a difference between 12x and 30x FF in HD.. So it seems the lack of difference in 12x and 30x FF is SD recordings only? Glenn |

My HD Box has crashed and reset itself twice now (only had it a few hours!). This has so far only happened when I press Red to enter the HD EPG.

Have you done a forced software update? I think a lot of these bugs might be down to the box using an older version of the software. For example, despite my box having a huge yellow sticker on it telling the engineer to do the update, he didn't. I let him get on with it because I knew that after he'd gone I'd sort it all out myself anyway. To do the update, power off the box at the mains (put it into standby first to make sure the HD is asleep - apparently they're sensitive to being powered right off at the mains) and then hold down the backup button ON THE BOX (not on the remote) and reapply the power. It will go right into update mode - all 4 LEDs on the front will be lit and you will get a big black and white message telling you not to turn the box off while the update is in progress. It can take up to 10 minutes. When the b&w message disappears the update is done - take the box out of standby and check the system screen to see that you have the latest software. This may deal with some of the bugs reported here. I am not seeing ANY of these issues on my box. HTH... Keith |
