Under normal circumstances Sky HD boxes do NOT allow "Clashes" to be scheduled.

However the most common reason for clashes is where a "Series Link" recording comes along and tramples over existing schedules. See below:

1) You manually schedule "two" programmes to record at (say) 9pm on Friday evening.

2) You schedule a "Series Link" for (say) 9pm on Monday, however this programme is shown "every" evening at 9pm.

3) Every time the Series Link programme starts for a specific day it enters the next occurrence into the schedule.

4) On Thursday Evening, as soon as the Series Link programme starts at 9pm it automatically enters the next occurrence into the schedule for Friday at 9pm.

5) Eureka! you have "three" programmes all trying to record at 9pm on Friday and hence have a "Clash".

The other common reason for "Clashes" is where one (or more) of the scheduled programmes has it's scheduled time changed by the broadcaster after it has been placed in the schedule for recording.

TiVo handles clashes far more gracefully, thankfully. Maybe it's a patented feature (priorities - works great given how often stuff is repeated) and Sky can't implement a similar system, or "Believe in better" means you don't actually need it (some sort of Sky Reality Distortion Field).

It does indeed. Thanks very much. It was happening on average twice a day. Switch from HD to non-HD and there would be a blank screen for a second or so - sometimes for good. Now it switches at once.

Are there any non-1080 HD channels? Otherwise I'm not sure what you mean by manually fixing the aspect ratio though.

Planner Copy Error

After selecting 6 recordings to Copy, when pressing Select it gave the Error Message:

For Your Information

Programme information isn't available right now.

Press BackUp to continue.

Sky Technical Support talked me through doing a Planner Rebuild (of course a good first step) then a software update. Neither fixed it, there were still 6 items selected for Copy, and the Copy function was disabled by this error, it was no longer possible to remove the Copy tag by pressing the Copy button, nor could items be added to the Copy queue. It was clearly a software fault triggered probably by a disk error. Other than suggesting a System Reset, which would destroy everything, Sky Technical Support were of no further help.

Sky gave an engineer appointment for 3 days later. Since that was too long to be without the service, I decided to try a step by step fix process.

The first thing tried was to delete the first item in the Copy queue. That fixed the problem immediately, all functions now work.

Hi Dave,
Yes, the Copy function normally works fine for me too, but the above error blocked me from using it for 2 days (well actually overnights).
I'm on the latest EPG, which I think is R004.049.21.00P. Can't find where to check that in System details though.
Thanks for the welcome!

Copy list limited to 8

Since the EPG update (Picasso) The copy list is limited to 8 items, this did not used to be the case.

Samsung box
model number R003.047.29.00P
Version number 973007
OS sys Version R003.047.29.00P
EPG Version 47.0.16.1

Hi all
Problems on my box include

switching off at will - not too frequent but enough to be very annoying

freezing on one channel remote and digibox buttons totally unresponsive - only reboot helps

EGP freezing - often and only a reboot helps

EGP navigation very slow sometimes, usually after above reboot, another reboot helps usually

anytime almost never works, usually greeted with "There are no programs of this type" and selecting pause,FF, or Rew on live television comes up with "System fault"

a rebuild or more than likely a SYS Reset sometimes
gives me a fully working system for a week, an hour, a minute or a couple of days

new hard drive fitted about a month or two ago that worked fine for about a week

Matt

both remotes?

Since the EPG update- everything is really quite slow and lagging. But the biggest problem I've had is that both remotes for the HD boxes have totally stopped working. FIrst one two days ago and now the other one. Isn't that a bit of a coincidence? Batteries are new. Anyone else have this problem?

Is anybody else experiencing audio delay during playback of recordings, specifically a couple of seconds of silence after fast-forward/rewinding? Problem is very noticeable on BBC One HD recordings.

Audio problems are a feature of the new EPG.

Sound taking several seconds to emerge when you press play or change channels is standard if you use some kind of digital amp. It appears quickly (like the old EPG) if you leave TV non digital sound on. So it seems to be some kind of processing delay introduced by the new EPG.

Moreover on our Pace (and plenty of others given the reports on here) the new EPG has introduced loads of sound drop outs and pixelations on various channels (ITV HD is terrible for sound and Sky Sports 2 for pixelation).

We had a new version of the new EPG this week but sadly it has not helped.

What perplexes me is the inconsistency and the fact that the problem can be resolved by hitting rewing then play. Just really annoying when skipping through Pointless to have 2/3 second sound dropouts unless i correct it.

Playback Freezing

Brand new Sky+ HD 2 Terabyte with latest epg.

During playback of SOME recordings , playback freezes. If I restart playback from the beginning, it freezes at the same point (so appears to be a fault in the recording, not playback). To get over it I have to start again from a time one minute later, and then playback continues OK. If after restarting I rewind, when it gets to the point with the faulty recording it freezes again.

This can happen at several places through the same recording (e.g. Bond; Casino Royale)

Has anyone else had this or is it a faulty box?

Samsung box, about 3 years old

Recently been having problems with HD channels failing to get a signal at first, ie switch to that channel and it's just a blue screen. Flicking up to the next channel and back down to it makes it appear, but I've been getting several failed recordings presumably due to this issue.

Also had a couple of occasions lately when a programme has failed to stop recording - recorded the football league show last night and it was still recording at 9:30 this morning and had taken up 13% of the drive space and also made another recording fail (I had 2 programmes set to record at the same time in the early hours and it could only record the first one).

Having a real problem on my Samsung box with rewind and fast forward. Suddenly got really sluggish and slow to respond.

Yesterday it showed the icon for rewinding x2 then did nothing.

Rebooted the box but still very very slow to respond.
