Evening folks,
I've had my toppy for a while now and I've made it my mission to convert as many people as possible to the ways of the PVR. (Well my mother and her other half at least!)
This question has many bits to it and if I’m a bit long winded I’ll apologise now. I'm also going to go off on a not quite so toppy tangent as well!
They want to upgrade their not really existing AV system to one that will enable them to record radio from a digital source and then maybe archiving that to CD to play in the car or upstairs. Sound quality is important. Most of the time they listen to radio 3/4 and would like to replay certain one off concerts etc. They are not overly tech savy but are by no means fools. The options for doing this are endless.
I'd also like to upgrade them to the PVR lifestyle and using the toppys radio bit seems like a good idea. They are impressed at the "find program in EPG, press red to record" ease of use.
Here come the questions.
Firstly would the toppy be able to do this using say, jags EPG. I presume the file would be a .rec file and would need converting into MP3 or similar. What would the quality be like after conversion?
How does the freeview radio bit compare to DAB/SKY/FM. Am I right in stating they use different compression/bit rates?
Would a DAB radio with EPG and a CD recorder do a better job with better sound quality and ease of use. Are there any DVD recorders with freeview that would perform a one box solution? Heck, can you get a cd recorder with built in DAB? (they'de then loose the telly bit I know). I've seen DAB radios with SD cards that record to MP3 which I presume you could then convert quite easily to CD?
Any ideas, thoughts etc would be great. Sound quality is almost the top priority so if the best choice is FM so be it but if I can get them to upgrade to a PVR (toppy!) at the same time my mission in life will be closer to completion.
Thanks
Drewboy.

) is that you would need to be somewhere around 220-230bps to equal FM.
