Pete Waterman on MP3s.....
RichardF: Do you think that vinyl will make a comeback, and how do you think the downloading of MP3's from the internet will effect the music industry?
->Pete Waterman replies: No. It won't affect the industry in the slightest it's a good excuse for the Americans to tell us why they're losing money. taken from the pop stars the rivals chat room. The question was not asked by me. |

its true tho. music people really like, they buy.
music they just want to listen to, try out = mp3. except a few hardcore mp3'ers, most people wouldnt buy all the mp3s they have, so its not like the music industry is losing out as much as they say, its a just a diversion. (just like sept 11 was for business, everything got blamed on it) |

If I didnt have mp3s, I'd just record off the radio like old times- the music industry isn't losing anything here since I was never going to be a customer anyway.
However, it's when they begin to lose true potential customers that they start to 'lose' out. Dean |

Personally, If I d/load from the net or TINTERNET as Peter Kay calls it! I will go and buy the original if i like it.
I use the NET to preview, why spend £15 on a cd you may only like 2 tracks on! A waste! |

(just like sept 11 was for business, everything got blamed on it) I'd have to fess up to downloading quite a lot, but again, if its something I really like, I usually end up buying it, as it is good to have the actual cd and sleeve etc. however, there's no way on earth I'd buy everything I've ever downloaded, not at £15 a cd, for stuff I'd listen to once. its ridiculous for the record cos to equate the number of downloads to lost revenue. whilst I can understand the POV of the record co's, I don't see why they have to blame the downturn of the business soley on this single issue. its widely known that growth of sales of dvds and console games have increased hugely in the last few years, mirroring the decline in cd sales, whilst personal disposable income has remained pretty much constant. and they can't do the maths?
