Have you heard the talking books he is doing for Dr Who? He takes off all kinds of voices and accents really well. Truth be told I LOVE his Scottish accent, but I also like the Drs accent too, gobby but cheeky. Lovely.
I partially agree. His accent does get silly when he says words like 'Humans', or the big 'OOOhhh, you are beaaauuuutiful', or his laugh, but otherwise, his accent is tolerable in my opinion.
Maybe OP just doesn't like English accents full stop. I'm English and I can't find anything wrong with his accent
I would prefer if he used his real accent... I think, a lot like Nichola Brown had done, he spends more time focusing on his accent and keeping it straight than he does acting. I think his acting suffers for it. Nichola Brown was never a terrible actress, but she played on DW so badly because she was trying to keep the accent straight (never managed, oh well).
If he didn't have to try to worry about his accent, he would be more entertaining, I think the accent holds him back.

His accent is nowhere near Cockney, don't you watch Eastenders? His accent is quite middle English.
I would be happy if he used his Scottish accent. I'm suprised the production team didn't have him doing a Welsh one.
As for Ecclestone and his Northern accent, I'm afraid the line "Even the Universe has a North" didn't do it for me, and I'm sure "Even the Universe has a Scotland" would be even less convicing

I prefer his real accent but his DW accent doesn't bother me too much apart from the occasional word or phrase (as another poster pointed out), that I find a bit.... cringey.
Even though im 9 years old i love Doctor Who . I was watching 2006 episode doomsday and his voice was not so good

Actually, the line was "lots of planets have a north." It wasnt to be convincing, it was to be funny, which I thought they were successful, Ive got it as a mobile ringer for text messages, hysterical.
My theory is, if the doctor can change his face, his height, his bone structure, shoe size and his voice when he regenerates, why shouldn't his accent change as well? I've never minded the different accents. I mind more a fake accent than I would have minded a scottish accent. Scottish accents are my favourites, and I know I'm weird, but I rather fancy the Manchester accent as well.
More interesting than the boring Southern accent I've got.
Besides I think he puts too much time worrying about keeping the accent fake rather than acting.
