After 2 weeks of ownership have I come across a known problem (and therefore wrokaround) here?

My TV is only 4:3. For some reason the screen is now squashed and I need to select widescreen for teh correct aspect and thus get bars at top and bottom.

The option in the toppy setting is greyed out.

Did something happen?

thanks.

P.S. I think it maight have happened after looking at 301/302.

I've just noticed on ITV3, the picture is ok in 4:3 for the programme, but when the commercials come on the screen is squashed in to fit, then goes back to normal for the programme.

:/

Which option is greyed out in the A/V Output Setting menu?

On my Topfield, the only way anything is greyed out is if the TV Aspect Ratio option is set to 16:9, this then greys out the 4:3 option for 16:9 transmissions. If the TV Aspect Ratio setting is set to 4:3, then the option to select either Center Extract or Letterbox is enabled for 16:9 transmissions.

Are you saying yours is greyed out even in 4:3 mode?

If so, then I would suggest a full reset/rescan as a first step.

Thanks CeejBee.

I hadn't actually noticed there were two settings to do with the aspect ratio.

The aspect ratio was actually set to 16:9 and it was the setting underneath that was greyed out.

I don't know how the aspect ration got changed (it was ok before) will have to see whether it change again.

Anyways I prolly wouldn't have spotted this in month of Sundays, so thanks very much.

You're welcome, zommo.

Just a quick mention to suggest a possible reason for the menu change is the use of the '0' button on the remote.

As you know, this button provides a quick aspect ratio alteration, and in so doing, it alters the menu setting. A post by Nigel Whitfield over on Toppy.org describes an instance when this can even be done by accident, (third post in this thread):

Aye, I guess its the 0 button.

As I meantiponed in the first post I think it happened when I switched to channel 301/302 (I would have used the number buttons and prolly was too late).
