VCR Videoplus+
Dear all,
I have heard conflicting things about this - please clarify - does Videoplus+ compensate if the schedule is running behind? Thanx |

And only if the broadcaster sends out the trigger signal as well (I think this is a manual procedure).

BBC PDC is a very automated process and is intimately linked to the playout automation.

Thanx for replies. My Sharp VCR does have PDC but is this signal only broadcast by certain channels or for certain programmes? My VCR display just now shows the PDC LED for 4 terrestrial channels but not for (London) ITV.

Only for certain channels and not necessarily at all times. They are supposed to set a flag so that your VCR reverts to timer mode if they aren't using PDC, but that doesn't always happen.
I haven't used PDC (or a VCR) for a couple of years, and I'm not sure whether it was a net benefit or not. In the final analysis, I probably lost more recordings because of it than were saved from truncation by having it! It didn't help that the PDC implementation was bodged from the outset in order to accomodate VideoPlus. With the advent of digital, I doubt the broadcasters have much interest in PDC anymore. |
