I have a Toshiba RD-XS34 HDD/DVD recorder and a SEG DVDR500.

Could anyone please tell me how I can make these region free.

Many thanks in anticipation of help.

You could try the following, I have had two different Tosh dvd players and this worked on both.

1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray
2. Press the 2 button on your remote control
3. Press the 4 button on your remote control
4. Press the 0 button on your remote control
5. Press the 3 button on your remote control
6. Press the 9 button on your remote control
7. Press the 6 button on your remote control
8. Press the 0 button on your remote control
9. Press the Enter button on your remote control to change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback
10. Press the Open button on your remote control to close the drive tray
11. Power off the DVD player
12. Power on the DVD player

It probably wont work but it's worth a try

Thanks JEDIMONKEY am I right in thinking if it don't work, it won't do any harm? I have also been on ebay and there are some there who offer info for £1. Now that seems fair to me as I found sites were asking £20. Thanks again I like this site it's a real friendly helpfull place.

PS I can't try it now as the wife is watching tv, they think thats all it's for.

It will be ok, I never had a problem because it always worked. I think more than likely that if it does not work the machine will just ignore what you have done.

Yeah it's probably £1 for a link to a site which you could google anyway. A lot of players don't have remote codes, you have to use a special remote to "fix" your machine for region free. The cheaper DVD players are easy enough to do, but ones like Sony and other similar makes require a special remote which is what the £20 charge is for. It's like those e-books they sell containing links you can find yourself
