watch all your dvds in high definition claim!!
in todays Times there is a free brochure advertising the products of Evesham Technology
page 7 shows a dvd player - quotes below watch all your dvds in high definition hi def conversion dvd players with hdmi and divx playback transforms your dvd collection and takes the picture quality to another level. Converts your existing dvds into high definition digital video streams ...... they also called the player Evesham HDDVD and all this for the amazing price of 69.99 this advert is clearly fraudulent and should get them into a lot of trouble - particularly calling it HDDVD

I find no mention of this on the Evesham site yet. The only DVD player they list is a Relisys RDVP1000 model which does upscaling.

Sounds like they are refering to a DVD player with upscaler + HDMI socket. If you get one of these machines, and plug it into a HD Ready tv (using HDMI cord), you can sort of get High Def out of your current SD DVD's. Its not true High Def, and how much better over SD it is can be a subject for another day.

Dave and you can get hd over component anyway - hdcp not withstanding sd in sd out - fact upscaling can also make the pq worse the more this testicles is allowed to continue the worse it will get the public is being conned by his sort of advertising and as such i have reported it to trading standards etc - if they had said upscaled-converted fair enough its like the high street box shifters saying - yes sir/madam you will take this tv home and see the world cup in hd ![]() and you might wonder why i get annoyed/upset on these matters - i'll tell you why because joe public will read this thread and see a new member with a few posts contradicting somebody with 5000+ posts and assume i'm wrong sorry not in this instance! |

just an update in fairness to evesham technology
i have received an email from the company chairman and the product description will be changed to upscaling dvd player and the model number will be changed to avoid the use of the term HD DVD thanks to evesham for setting matters straight and to avoid customer confusion |

I think I remember seeing a £99.99 dvd player with "HD" marked on the front of the unit in a branch of Dixons a few weeks ago. Again, this must be an upscaler device. The promise of High Def pictures from your current (SD) DVD's.
I wonder how many people know the difference! Also, so not to get carried away by upscalers, one review I saw of a similar player pointed out that the "HD" output over HDMI (using sd dvd), didnt look any better than the native SD output via SCART to the same tv. In which case, can I ask a dumb question....why bother putting an upscaler + hdmi on the machine? Dave |
