Connecting a telly to a Pc problem

It's with a heavy heart that come to this forum today - on a bank holiday of all things.
I have just purchased a Samsung LE 26R74 and i'm desperately trying to connect it to a Dell Dimension 4400 with a Nvidia Geforce2 mx/mx400 adaptor. I went to PC world yesterday and picked up a Belkin VGA lead and...

nothing.

The TV didn't pick up anything.

Any clues to this problem would be very much appreciated. As usual...

cheers.

Dont know your equipment so... are you connecting it up with the PC Sub cable or hdmi/DVI? I assume you have selected the appropriate input on the TV with the remote.

Is this as "the" monitor or a secondary monitor? If it is secondary have you enabled the second monitor out under your desktop controls?

Astaroth - I've attempted to connect the PC to the TV with a VGA cable, not a fancy hdmi/DVI one. As for selecting the PC as an input, on the menu screen 'PC' is greyed out, so I can't select it. And I was hoping to make the HDTV the sole monitor. Any suggestions gratefully received!
