Hi

I've been looking at buying a tv for a couple of weeks now, the 20 year old CRT finally packed in and alas it seems its time to move on . I've been to all the store favourites and heard all the BS that sales people like to say when they clearly don't know shit .

The most ammusing was when I asked a comet sales person what was the best LCD TV they had he showed me the Samsung R74 connected to a JVC DVD Player via a scart cable playing a spider-man DVD. I told him that the image still looked grainy he said that it was because they were not using gold tipped connectors and condensation builds up in the connectors. I had to restrain my self from seriously hurting him .

Anyway. I'm looking at 3 TV's

1. The new Sharp 37 or 40"
2. The Panasonic TH37PX600 (plasma i know)
3. Philips CINEOS 37PF9830/10

Besides this I've also looked at Samsung R74's and LE40M61BX and LG screens too.

So far all i have really heard are sob stories about SONY. I'm not really too concerned with getting the most of my money. I'm looking for the best TV and my main concern is:
picture quality for SD, Freeview, HD, DVD etc.

So far no one has been able to tell me definativly what the best of the best is. I can't even find a top 5 or top 10. Well i can but they usually incorporate price which puts a scew on things.

Can anyone help and tell me whats the best from the above listed and or if they can argue anything better?

Many thanks in advance

I would stay well clear of Phillips. Phillips has some well dodgy faults.

After a long evaluation process I eventually chose the Panasonic.
It has a high contrast ratio and an excellent onboard freeview tuner. DVD's particularly if input via component or HDMI from a good re-scaling player look stunning.

I was able to select, test and buy from an independent dealer at a price of £1450.

After a month I am not regretting my decision and am looking forward to an eventual HD sky installation.

We also evaluated very carefully and chose the Panasonic 37 PX 60.

We also have SKY HD.

It was a bit of a culture shock after an old Sony CRT. Plasmas and LCDs with big screens are not as bright and garish. This at first makes them look dull.

But...we are getting used to this and the picture on Freeview is good and SKY HD, especially the BBC nature shows is excellent.

Recorded the football last week to test this in HD. You can see every face in the crowd and it is noticeably sharper. Not the slightest hint of smear or motion blur.

ive got a philips 32" lcd model, last years top version, ive never had one single problem with it and i would recommend Philips again,im soon to be upgrading,i did want the Pioneer 436xde which is the best screen you can buy aslong as its well treated but im opting for the cheaper panasonic 42px60,seems to be a excellent set at a reasonable price
