The Standard EPG
Bat-man

I have had my Topfield for about three weeks and, like others here, am really pleased with it.
However, the EPG only downloads the next three or four days for channel Five yet all other channels are for seven days.
This is a real pain as I set my recordings for the week each Saturday morning.
Any ideas please?
(PS: signal strength is around 75% and no errors)

A reply I got from five in April:

'We were sorry to learn you have been experiencing problems with accessing Five’s EPG.

Recently, a problem developed with the DTT service which meant that many viewers were losing our channel altogether. To rectify the problem, we had to reduce the amount of advance information in the EPG. As a result only 4 days worth of listings are available.'

Thanks Barry that explains it.
A bit of a pain but at least I now know that it's not my Topfield at fault.
Cheers!

Hi Batman

Presume you do know that if you ever decide to use MYStuff rather than vanilla EPG one advantage is that you can download 14 days info for all channels. Does of course require that you have a convenient (does not have to be permanent) USB link for a regular download. I download once a week (takes about 2 mins) when like you I set most of the weeks recordings.
In fact have laid a 7m USB link under floorboards from front room to my office in the cellar for the purpose. Longer links are possible apparently.
Only drawback is changes to schedules; although I think you can combine download info with overnight scans to minimise this but not tried it yet so not positive if that works.

Download EPG Navigator, and also Improbox (and pay 15 Euro for the premium version)

Cannot see how that is going to gather EPG data that is not transmitted by Channel 5 which is Bat-man's problem. Have I missed something; I often do.

I think that you can use EPG Navigator, EPG Updater and Nigel's scripts to download teh data from the Radio Times.

I spent some days looking blankly at it last month.

I got it to half work. :|

You can set EPG Navigator to scan all the muxes in the middle of the night to gather the EPG info.

Works for me.

So you do get seven days EPG info on channel 5 using this method is that correct.

rhubarbe; you really should give MYStuff (another) go. I think you decided it was not for you. Actually was it Mrs.r Mk2 who vetoed it I cannot remember. Richard

Still don't see how that will get the Channel info that Five is not broadcasting - regardless of what mux it is..

@ Richard. The project for the EPG Navigator was for the F6000PVR I am testing for Turbosat. I'm waiting for a firmware update so that project is on hold for the time being.

You're quite right though; Mrs r MkII won't have anything but the vanilla EPG. I managed to get her to try the Dreambox tonight but we couldn't get it to rewind live TV so it's been fired for tonight.

What has Mrs r MkII got to do with how the EPG works and this forum. Should stick to the issue of EPG!

I've lost track - how far did you get with the scripts, rhubarbe?

Nigel.

Although not alluded to specifically, we were refering to the fact that although you can do a lot to personalise your EPG, many people prefer, and stick with the vanilla EPG.

Some of us consider ignoring a question posed by a long term poster in this area, who has helped many people looking for information on a Toppy, to be rude.

If come-day-go-day folk don't think it's rude to ignore a question, that's for their consciences.

In a year's time Richard and I will still be here, probably answering questions on the Toppy EPG.

Morning Nigel.

I got as far as gathering the EPG data from RT. I have yet to work out how to load them to the Toppy, but the TF6000PVR has WSS issues that make a 16:9 picture display as a small window within the screen. I'm waiting for a FW update from James because it's a bit unwatchable at the mo' due to this issue.
