I had an interesting chat with a CS representative at Orange the other day about YourPlan and OVP.

She said a lot of the CS reps were surprised at how limiting the YourPlan was (basically Orange Everytime plus bundles).

She agreed that YourPlan should be along the lines of you tell Orange what you want, and how much you're willing to pay and then settle on a fair amount if not agreed.

I think this style of tariffing would catch on and attract a lot of customers.

My ideal tariff would be

500 mins X-net calls inclusive (X-net calls to take first call on inclusive minutes)
150 SMS inclusive

National calls : 10p a min
X-Net : 20p a min
Text : 15p
Voicemail : 5p a min

And I'd happily pay £60 a month for that...

Anybody else have suggestions on how tariffs should be changed in this country?

150 inclusive was also mentioned, and it's one of those things if you don't use 150 it doesn't matter, but in order to get the others i'd be willing to pay extra for something i probably wouldn't use... part of a typical bartering process...

Their new tariffs are crap. I ended up on an OVP when I subscribed last week, and even this was cheaper than their own tariffs last month. Without the OVP, I would have gone to another network. Just for the record, I couldn't care less about cross network mins, all I'm interested in is cheap Orange to Orange calls and the odd few calls to a land line.

Dunno if this is relevant - but I bought an Orange bundle (with my s****y new phone that I can barely use) and txt msgs are 6.6p a msg and you can carry them over if you dont use them up (which is just as well - as I am too scared to do anything on my phone but play blackjack) <----- sad sad sad i know!

I've got a text message bundle on my tariff but they won't let me OVP the T-Mobile bundle of 200 messages for a tenner.

OVP, LK, is where Orange will match any standard tariff offered by any other main UK mobile operator (O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Virgin), where things such as O2-O2 calls on O2 become Orange - Orange on OVP

OVP stands for Orange Virgin Plan (I think) which means they price match Virgin. Why not check out the Virgin tarriffs - I like 'em.

OVP stands for Orange Value Promise, this is where they'll match the competitors - T Mobile, O2 and Vodafone - Mobile Phone Tariff, which is deemed to be popular, on those respected networks.

There are many tariffs which Orange matches, which are better than the current Orange ' YOUR PLAN' Range.

And to be honest with you guys, i actually think that this new ' YOU PLAN' tariff is a pile of garbage, as i've been a orange customer for 5 years now, and been on Everyday 50 for time I have seen many tariffs come and go these are the worst tariffs that i have come across for Off Peak Hours ....

People have to pick YP 30 at the cost of GBP 15 before they can pick any of the OFF PEAK tariffs at the cost of an additional GBP 16 month, total cost ... GBP 31 which is a Rip Off;

Compared that to:
ED 50 ... Average price GBP 15.50
T Mobile Freetime 750 and 50 TXT GBP 13.99 (also on Orange OVP)

and even comparing to again the cost of line 2 split between Chat 60 Line 1 and ED 50 Line 2, worked out cheaper .. GBP 29.00 ish

I have a hunch, it could have some thing to do with recouping the cost of 3G licencees and they can hike the price now and recoup some costs now and when 3G is launched Orange will be cheaper than its Competitors ' Long term gain, for short term suffering ???' , its that or Orange are getting to greedy.

Can you use Orange inclusive minutes to non-geographic standard landline numbers. eg number ranges 084, 087 and are free calls still free? The website is not clear on this.

yeh, during your inclusive airtime / minutes, you still can call Non Geo numbers (0870; 0845) for free; otherwise calls are charged at standard rate dependent on tariff.

Freephone Numbers vary depending what tariff your on; 0800 and 0500 numbers are free on all Orange and T Mobile tariffs;

But if you get Orange to match (via OVP) / or take a contract out with O2 and Voda Tariff then calls to such numbers will have to be paid for / get taken out of your inclusive minutes.

Ok .. so to sum up ..... all my friends are on Tmobile, so I can do an OVP to change my 60 free mins to Tmobile numbers instead of Orange people of whom i know no-one.

I sent my 1st txt msg today - and I called my dad (phone in the hall so I could hear it - I even used the voice thingy) Dunno who was more surprised my dad or me!

I am not as stupid as I sound (honest) I just dont seem to be able to get to grips with the new phone and the new deals.

abb: if you do an OVP; from make sure the OVP tariff has 60 Cross Network Minutes, NOT all tariffs have Cross Network Minutes -> otherwise OVP only allows you to call standard Orange numbers within the inclusive time (UK Landline / Non Geo / Orange Mobiles) - see previous postings

Nope. The OVP counts the Orange to Orange calls as the calls to people on the same network, and if you are calling T-Mobile phones from your OVP Orange phone, then you will be calling cross network, and be charged as a cross network call. This is regardless of what OVP plan you are on UNLESS it is a OVP plan with cross network minutes listed.

Will old talk plan customers be forced over to the new plans?

I'm glad I upgraded before the new plans came out & the free insurance was dropped, (don't have to worry about dropping my Nokia 7650 ).

It's a shame that Orange Care is no longer included, this will probably be my last 12 months with them because of this.

No, there is no requirement on your part to change to the new tariffs... Whenever I've changed tariff it has been a couple of months before it become obsolete.

I actually managed to get onto Business 200 at the beginning of the year, and then it became Everytime 200, and I'm sticking with Everytime 400 till I can find an OVP to take it to.
