Orange Upgrade - Samsung D500 or Z500
Today i recieved a phone call from Orange Saying i was due a free upgrade + a 10% Discount on my line rental.
I was offered a Samsung D500 or Z500 I have a SE K750i at the moment and don't think either are better phones. Ideally i would like the Sony Ericsson W810i or Samsung D600e. If i was to say i was thinking of changing to another network do you think the would offer me the W810i?? What do you think about the phones i have been offered??? |

The d500 is a good phone but id say what you have is better at the moment. Just tell them you are going to switch networks and ask for your pac no as you have been offered a better phone free and they will give you a better phone.
I have just upgraded from a d500 to th se w810i and i can recommend that phone as its excellent. |

It wasn't it was an external company. The lady on the phone said that orange send them numbers when peoples contracts are nearly up. I thought it was a bit weird as my contract date is August and still have 2 months left. I phoned oranges upgrade center, number obtained from orange.co.uk and asked about an upgrade, they couldn't offer me the W810i at the moment but it might be possible in august, fingers crossed. I think its pretty bad how orange have given my details to an external company. |

Orange dont pass on any numbers to dealers, dealers tend to keep their own records of when a number range from a network came into circulation ie if they were supplied with phones starting 07812 ...... in June 05 they will keep a record of the date and randomly call numbers starting 07812 000001 to 07812 999999. Myself and my wife both have staff phones (wife works for them and I used to work for both Orange and 3rd party dealers) and we both regularly get these calls, I cant see Orange passing on staff numbers to 3rd party dealers. Also in the past I have had calls from these dealers when one of my numbers were ported away from a particular network, so really the dealers have no clue when your contract is up. Hope this is of some help Daz |

Orange Customers Beware
On another thread i explained how i received a phone call on my mobile saying how i was coming up to the end of my contract and was offered a free upgrade and 10% off my current line rental.
http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...d.php?t=387749 If you are on Orange and receive a phone call with an offer like this don't accept it. Bunch of cowboys I was told i could receive a free upgrade to a W810i receive 10% off my current line rental. The only conditions were that it would extend my contract by 18 months. I agreed and was told i should receive the phone the next day. (This was last week). The only details i gave them were my name and postcode. Today the phone still hadn't arrived so i phoned the mobile number they used to contact me with. I spoke to the guy and he said that there was no record of the delivery / order. So i asked him if he was orange he said no, he works for a company called "Squeezy Mobiles", who get numbers of orange customers who’s contract are up for renewal. I told him i wasn't interested, he said that my number would be removed from their records and i wouldn't be bothered again. I think if i did get the phone it wouldn't have been an upgrade but a new phone with a new contract, would they be using my name and postcode to sell to other companies? Surely this can't be legal. I think i will phone orange and inform them about this. I will now only contact orange directly or go into an orange shop. I bought my phone from orange online, if i go into an orange shop will i be able to upgrade there?? Cheers

I know that my friend who uses O2 online went into the shop to upgrade, so I'd imagine that'd be the same for Orange. I reckon that company were just one of those who phone asking if you want a new mobile, rather than Orange themselves passing on the info. I'd tell Orange you aren't happy though.

It's not only Orange customers this happens to. I was with 3 for a while and started getting the same type of calls from 3rd party firms in about month 9 of a 12 month contract. I kept getting them while I was at work so they got short shrift from me, and then I found out it was all about them trying to get new business and they weren't linked to 3 at all (though they said they were).
I ditched my 3 contract last November and went to O2, but carried on getting the same firms calling back; as soon as I started telling them I'm not on 3 any more they've lost interest and I haven't had a call for a couple of months now. Fingers crossed it stays that way as I really objected to how pushy and rude they were. When the calls first started I made the mistake of talking to them, and when I said I wasn't ready to upgrade as I still had 3 months left on my contract they would get really really shirty and try to get me to tell them when my contract was up, as their records showed I was at the end of it. I asked one woman what right it was of hers to ask that and who she was/who she worked for, and she had the cheek to ask me what right I had to ask her that!!!!! I put the phone down on her and she called back 3 times still trying to get me to sign up with her!!! As if. Don't give these guys the time of day. muffster |

I had this too!! Lying b'stards
I had exactly the same thing a few weeks ago, a call, supposedly from Orange, which offered a free phone upgrade and 10% off line rental . I've been with Orange for years and previously they have phoned to offer a loyalty bonus of £50 taken in parts off the next 3 or 4 bills. First time I was suspicious but it proved OK and has happend in subsequent years.
Consequently I went ahead BUT specifically said I didn't want an upgrade, I was happy with my phone."Have it anyway", they said, "you can always sell it on Ebay" Then I get a call saying I can't do this and stay on my current tariff! - WTF! anyway I agreed a new tariff and waited. 2 days later - the phone "upgrade" (worse spec than my current phone, no camera or anything!) arrives along with a letter saying that the new SIM {WTF! - again} in the package will be enabled in 3 days time - WITH A NEW NUMBER!!! This was a complete con - the call, phone and letter were from "The Mobile Phone Company" in Blackpool - NOT from Orange. I wrote a stinky letter telling them how they had lied to me me, mis-represented themselves and better not proceed with changing ANYTHING and sent the entire package back to them by Royal Mail Special delivery. I then called Orange to find out what was going on, to make sure any changes arranged on my behalf were cancelled and filed a Dealer Complaint report with them. Can I suggest you call Orange straightaway and do the same. On the Orange website you can find out about any offers due to you as a good customer and yes I could have 10% off my line rental but no need to have a new phone, or SIM or number! These f*****g cowboys should be hunted down like the lying dogs they are. I asked several times "are you calling from Orange" and each time he lied and said yes!! LCDMAN................The man with no sig! |

I get calls like this about twice a week on my company Orange phone - they usually just hang up in a rude fashion when I state that it's a company contract phone and I don't have anything to do with it. My wife used to get two or three a year on her phone, but not had any of late.
To be honest, if Orange ring you, they should have your details. Any company that rings you claiming to be Orange but not knowing how long you've got left on your contract or your name must start ringing alarm bells. Ask them who they are; don't assume it's Orange. It usually isn't; I've been with Orange since they started in the UK (must be about 11 or 12 years now) and in all that time, they've only directly rang me once to inform me of new deals. I challenged them (was getting these phone calls then); it was Orange because they asked me whether I had web access and they told me to look into it myself and make my choice in my own time - hardly the behaviour of a third party shop. I usually upgrade packages / phone for wife on Orange website or in store. Much, much safer option. |

You should definitely report these companies to Orange - they've just made their rules for selling O phones much stricter, and the companies CANNOT pretend to be Orange - they also have to record every call - which could be useful!!!!
I've registered my phone numbers with the TPS and after a while, the number of calls I got reduced - Admittedly I had to report a few and contact others telling them to stop ringing/texting, but it seemed to work FYI - Telephone Preference Service |
