heres the story.

£30 per month with a £360 cashback after 12 months = £0.00

however O2 have written to me offering a different plan saving money but will this negate the terms of the cashback deal

has anyone had any dealings in this

You need to refer to the terms of the cashback deal - I'm guessing the cashback is from the retailer and not O2.

Normally cashback deals rely on you sending the retailer your invoices showing that you are still on the tariff you signed up to, and are paying the bills on time.

If you are not required to send the retailer the bills, then I'm not sure they will know what tariff you are on.

I was going to do exactly the same thing. I had a cashback deal on 3 from carphonewarehouse and I had to send my 4th and 8th bills in to get the 2 cheques.
It was a 12 month contract.
Once I got the 8th bill cheque, I phoned up 3 to drop to a lower contract because carphonewarehouse would have no way of finding out.

However, 3 told me that I can drop to a lower contract, but then I would HAVE TO stay for another 12 months from the date that I change to the lower contract, as if it was a new contract.

It was worth the try though

They informed you incorrectly.
You can change your tariff at any point after 6 months on 3.
You cannot go down more than one step at a time though.

If you try calling them again on 08707 330333 or 333 from your handset, they will change your tariff.

Failing this, go into your nearest CPW store and they will call for you.

dont let them get away with charging your more than you want to pay.

Listening to a particular radio consumer programme there seems that there are loads of problems with these cash-back deals. They seem to be so constructed that unless you follow the T&Cs to the letter you won't get your money. There are tight time-frames when you can claim and the whole thing is too complicated . One guy reported that he sent in his bill, the company denies receiving it and so they have cancelled the whole thing. Other people have reported similar problems.

Of course these schemes are designed this way so that the majority of people will get fed with the whole rigmarole and just give up. They seem to be designed along the same lines as those extended warranty deals that the likes of Powergen used to flog. You were supposed to get all you money back after five years, if you registered it in the first place( and you hoped the company received the registration) and then remembered to claim in the very small time-frame allowed after five years.

as you have moved to a higher tariff, you should be ok, but check with E2save first, as they earn different commissions depending on what tariff they sell the phone.
Even though it is a higher tariff, they may not honour the cashback as you are not on the tariff you originally signed up for.

On the subject of cash backs I'm about to send my 12th bill of a 12 month 3 contract to CPW.

I have given 3 30 days notice to close the account by asking for a PAC.

The number transfer and disconnection from 3 will go through 2 weeks before the 12 month contract ends altough I still pay line rental for the full 30 days notice period. This takes me to the full 12 month contract period.

Will this early "disconnection" upset my cashback even though I am technically honouring the 12 month contract?
