I'm thinking of getting my first DVD player this christmas.
My only two concerns are:- 1) My tv is 4:3 - do all DVD films come in the heavy letterbox mode or can I set the machine to play them full screen and pan and scan them or zoom in slightly with relatively thin black bars left at the top and bottom. 2) Can the DVD player video output send the signal in PAL rather than RGB - my old TV doesn't cope with RGB very well at all. Any help would be appreciated. |

Even a budget player should do all of the above. I have a Samsung 709 which can and is rumoured to be available from Richer Sounds for £99.

I wasn't aware of many DVD players that allowed you to zoom the picture out, with the exception of the Samsung / Thomson DVD players, this really looses all the quality of the picture though, and I doubt it would be much use really.Better off viewing a small letterbox image I think,
