There is a mini update since then (1.00.08) thats just been put on Humax' web site. The next main update is still probably a month or two at least for over the air updates accross the main customer base.

1.04 fixed it, which was the update before last over the air.

Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but here goes anyway.

While a scheduled recording is taking place and I start watching it, by pressing the 'play list' button under the remote's flap, I find there is a problem.

While the programme is recording (say its on for 30 mins) and I watch ten minutes then stop watching it, by pressing the 'stop' button, when I come back to it again after the recording has finished, the programme starts from the beginning, and doesn't remember that I had watched the first ten minutes.

Is it possible for this to be sorted out?

Its an interesting one and something that I got involved in discussing on one of the topfield forums as that PVR (very similar/based on the same hardware etc) does the same thing. Nigel said that what is happening is the data for that record doesnt get written until the end of the recording.

So in the case of the Humax - playing a file from the playlist has resume play automatically, including those that are already recording. But once the recording ends the data held for that recording including resume play placing is then written wiping any resume play data held before then, that one time.

Not sure if it can be got around - the toppy which started life in 2004 and then released in the UK market sometime early 2005 has never had a fix/change to this. So its either a bit difficult to do or its not something thats been high enough on the list of things to look at.

I'm very happy with the Humax at the moment, but I have been reading about the new update which some users have downloaded from the Humax website, and some seem to be having more problems than before they downloaded it, which is a bit worrying.
I might just stick to the latest OTA I downloaded and leave it at that.

MAJOR ITEM

An option to turn off OSDs when Replaying. This should apply to both SCARTS as I use the TV Scart to feed RGB to a DVD Recorder for archiving.

Apart from the obvious messages (eg scheduled timer starting) I have had an apparently random message "The channel is scrambled or not available" which spoiled the DVD recording. On replaying the scene (on the 9200T) the message does not appear again so it may well be tuner related and raised in response to a completely uninteresting event in the context of the archiving. SW was 1.00.08.

MINOR ITEMS

An option to disable MHEG.

Store EPG when in Standby (believed scheduled).

Allow PIP when replaying/recording.

Reduce x 64 fast play speed.

1) 32x FF and rewind. There appears very little difference between 4x and 16x whilst 64x is just too fast without something intermediate.

2) 14 day EPG with better information. The information on the current version is woeful. No director/actor/date information on many films.

3) Add last EPG to HD or memory for quick reference, updating in the background.

4) "Change channel at start" feature. In other words when in EPG, clicking on future program produces menu for changing the channel without recording as well as recording. This feature is used by Telewest on their boxes.

5) Autoupdate using OTA more often - with disclaimer if needed. RS232C is just too cumbersome.

6) USB and RS232C interfacing sofware should include other operating systems like Linux. There are many developers out there willing to help - see Ubuntu.org!

7) Delete recordings from front-end list without having to enter Menu etc

8) Keep current program viewable when entering Menu

Recently our communal aeriel has intermittent bad reception, and the "scrambled..." message appears instead of the no siginal message my old digibox would have given.



This one is not really under Humax's control as it is using the freeview epg info whereas it would have to pay licensing fees if it wanted to use the 4TV 14 day guide.

I think the Freeview Playback initiative will add extra meta data that might have the above


Is that same as the wake up timer feature on other boxes that changes the channel so that you can make sure you don't miss some live event, or just to watch live?

Both I think StoneF. With Telewest feature, I just mean allowing to change the channel automatically at the start of a scheduled program and overriding the current program without recording it - if that makes sense?

E.g - If I was watching a BBC One program between 18:00 and 18:30 say and had sheduled an ITV 2 prgram that started at say 18:20, then it would automatically change the channel regardless of what you were watching.

I think the Humax does that if you disconnect the hard drive.

Last week I had set-up the Richard Prior live to record, followed by Clerks. The on minute end auto padding of "Richard Prior" caused the recording clash menu to appear which cancelled Clerks instead of working like a video recorder where you would just miss the first minute of the following programme in this case. Also that recording clash menu should show for longer.

The recording clash menu is completely stupid and pointless and may be fixed (or removed) in the new version promised.

Well, in ye olde days when people had to get out of their seats to change channels, or even turn knobs and guess the channel was tuned to the max, this would have been a viable option I suspect LOL. The question is, how many valves would be required to replace a 160Gb hard drive? "Valves as data storage?", I hear people ask!

Probably been mentioned before (and may even be fixed in firmware later than 06) but the wife was complaining yesterday about the way that the box switches the channel on the TV when a timed recording starts.

I'm aware of the workaround by snapping off the pin from the SCART lead, but we find the functionality useful when switching the box on manually.

Is it possible for the pin 8 switching not to happen when the box is activated by a timer rather than the user?

It would be good if the box to takes into account the recording padding settings when recording programs that immediately follow each other on different channels. If you record two programs one after the other on the same channel it doesn’t matter (see below), but if I set the following program:



1. 9:00-9:30 BBC1

2. 9:30-10:00 BBC1

3. 10:00-11:00 BBC3



My padding settings are to start recording 1 minute early, and finish 5 minutes late. In order to record the above three programs, I would expect the box to use both tuners as it has to record BBC1 until 10:05 and it needs to start recording BBC3 beforehand at 9:59. What actually happens is that it only uses one tuner, and therefore ignores:



The padding settings for the end of program 1 (fine, because any overrun is picked up at the beginning of program 2)

The padding settings for the beginning of program 2 (fine, because it was picked up at the end of program 1)

The padding setting at the end of program 2 (not ok, because this will often cut off the end of a show)



What the box does do successfully is start at 8:59 for program 1 and end at 11:05 for program 3



The box seems to decide what tuner to use for each recording when you select the shows in the Channel Guide. When you are doing this it does not consider the padding settings, and it needs to. In the above example, the box decides it can use just one tuner to complete the three recordings but only if it ignores the padding settings.

Why does it not just ask you if you want to merge the recordings into one?

Then it could just keep the padding as normal and use one timer instead of three and one tuner.

Having recorded two consequtive programmes with one timer, and then split them, could the second be automattically titled from the programme info at the time of the split.

I've been reading more about padding and the box seems to be working as intended. I've only just bought one and didn't realise that padding is a relatively new feature.

However, i'd love to see it changed, so that when you are in Channel Guide and schedule too many consecutive programs on different channels, it realises that because of the current padding settings, the programs are actually overlapping rather than consecutive and flashes up the usual warning box. When you schedule a program, the padding should be added at that point in time, according to current padding settings, so that a change in padding settings does not change existing schedules - and thus you should see the actual start and end times of the program after padding has been added in the schedule.

If you are relying on padding as a way to be certain to capture the beginning or end of a program, then the box should function as described above. Otherwise the only way to be sure is to maually edit the start and end times of each program - which is was the auto padding is supposed to sort for you.

Last Wednesday (25th October) I set a recording for 9pm to 10pm on Sunday evening using the EPG then went away for the weekend. My box fires up at 4pm every day to reload the EPG.

When I came back the Humax had recorded from 10pm to 11pm. The clock had corrected for BST but the recording hadn't.

I believe that the loader version is 4.08, from memory.

Hi Sean, the reason I ask was because on loader a4.09 I think that was changed. Although I think I remember someone commenting that if a "second" recording then starts as well that it will activate the scart switch. Never checked it myself.

This is not down to the channels but the mux the channels are on.

Humax made the right choice on this to maintain greatest viewing frexibility... I watch live telly.

If you never watch live telly then I suppose you would disagree... BUT the majority should take precedence.

Anyway it easy to force the 2 tuners to use the single mux ... just manually extend one of the reservations from the two channel (on same mux)overlap point.

Not true for consequtive programmes on the same channel. Here the recordings split at the start of the second recording - observing it's pre padding, with a gap of a couple of seconds.
