Hi I have just bought a new Samsung 73 series HDReady LCD TV and would like some advice on the best way of connecting to my new laptop.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/t...6r73bdxxeu.asp
In the instuctions manual under 'Connecting HDMI/DVI' it says:
'Do not attempt to connect the HDMI/DVI to a PC or Laptop Graphics Card'. (This will result in a blank screen being displayed). Also in the back of the manual under 'Setting the PC' it also says 'DVI does not support PC function'
It says to connect the computer:
'Connect the D-Sub cable (optional) to "PC (PC IN)" on the rear of your set and the other end to the video card of your computer'
I've read elsewhere that a DVI connection is better as it is digital to digital and there's no analog to digital conversion needed. Also I have read that it depends on the quality and the electronics on the LCD. Since my Samsung is brand new and cost £639 ($1200) and clearly doesn't use DVI for PC connection, I can only assume that there is a reason for this and the picture quality will still be optimum by connecting the PC by the way it says. Do you know? and what sort of cable do I need to buy and will I still get optimum picture quality?
Kind Regards Chris

The laptop has DVI S-Video and D-Sub. I think that accounts for every possible video output.

standard male to male vga lead should do it then
i've been looking at dvi to vga leads all day to try and find the best one for the same purpose!

the reason for connecting via the vga/pc input on the tv, is that it accepts 1366x768 resolutions for correct pixel mapping
where-as if you try to do the same with the hdmi input, you get a blanks creen

Cool thanks. Surely with the quality of the telly there must be a reason for connecting it the way they say. Male to Male VGA yeah?
