Just browsing through the internet today I was trying to get the latest info on some of my favourite singers/groups that seem to have disappeared without a trace. Here's my top three:

Paddy McAloon/Prefab Sprout - No Prefab album for about five years and nothing at all since the rather off the wall solo release 'I trawl the megahertz' in 2003. Even more frustrating given that Paddy allegedly has hundreds of unreleased songs in the vaults.

Mark Hollis/Talk Talk - as far as I can see absolutely zilch since his eponymous solo album in 1998

Kevin Shields/My Bloody Valentine - 'Loveless' was 1991 ffs!!! Nothing since apart from the 'Lost in translation' stuff (grateful for small mercies!)

Anyone have their own artistes they're desperate to hear again (or anyone want to sympathise with me? )

Fully agree with the sentiment about Prefab Sprout / Paddy McAloon. One small thing though: didn't he go blind a few years ago? Wasn't "I Trawl The Megahertz" (which I rather liked) inspired by his listening to CB radio at night seeing as he could no longer read or write music?

My main "wish they'd do something soon" artist is The Blue Nile. I've loved them since I first heard "Hats", and have seen them play live twice, and also saw Paul Buchanan's solo tour the other week. He played two new Blue Nile songs, one of which ("Meanwhile") was outstanding. Really hope they bring something out soon. Probably be another eight years though...

The Cinematic Orchestra are due to release an album this year (I think), the first since 2002's Every Day

I think Mark Hollis has all but retired. I know Tim Friese Greene has a solo album out but I haven't heard it.

The Cinematic Orchestra's recent Radiohead cover was rather gloomy but I look forward to the new album. I liked their score for Man with a movie camera.

Most of my fave bands have had LPs out recently but I am really looking forward to the new Radiohead LP. A little birdie tells me The Eraser is a very good LP indeed. Cheers Tweety.

McFly, where are you? Come and save me from the bland warblers and achingly trendy indie bands that are everywhere I look lately.

Annie Lennox - long over due a album from one of the greatest voices in British music - note she is writing her album now so hopefully it will be out at some point in 2007.

Travis - They released their last album (not including the greatest hits) 2-3 years ago, but it was completely lacking in the spark that made me like them in the first place and The Invisible Band seems like so long ago now. They have a new album due at some stage, but it keeps slipping. I'm going mad waiting.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about Travis, getting on for 3 years now so well overdue something new. I thought the last one was (mostly) really good though.

Re Paddy McAloon, yes I seem to remember now stories about his eyesight problems around the time of 'I trawl the Megahertz' though I wasn't sure if it was temporary or not. Allegedly he's back working with Thomas Dolby (hooray) and the rumour is there may be some new stuff coming out but I won't believe it until I hear it.

Ooh not too sure about Metallica St Anger wasn't a brilliant album, seems to me since James stopped drinking they have lost a bit of their spark

Also the Some Kind of Monster documentary showed him as a whining t*t

Aerosmith are currently making an album so that should be out by the end of the year i guess, mixed feelings about their stuff these days, Honkin On Bobo was great, but since/during Get a Grip they pretty much lost the plot and got into wussy ballad and blandola territory.
Rush are also at work, always look forward to a Rush album.
Dirty Americans are due an album, but i dont think they have a record label at the moment.

The Police. They have never officially split up, never did a farewell tour, Sting just said they were taking a rest, it's turned into 23 years since their last studio CD.
