Will 3 give you a PAC code there and then when you ask for it, or do you have to wait a few days for them to send it?

With me I had to wait ages for it as "their systems were down" they told me you should normally get it straight away though.

They won't give you a PAC code, but will give you a PAC.

A PAC code doesn't exist a PAC does.

Note: PAC = Port Authorisation Code.
Therefore PAC Code = Port Authorisation Code Code.

When you request a PAC from your current provider they will issue you with a code, this you give to your new provider and allows you to take (port) your number to the new network.

An unlock code is a code you enter into your phone to remove the network lock, and allow you to use any networks SIM in your phone.

What an unlock code, so you can use any networks SIM in the phone, as per the OP, or for a PAC so you can port the number, unlike the OP as the OP was confused and thought a PAC was an unlock code.

Virgin are still if you have spent £30 with them in total since being with them, they will unlock for free.
