Program names not being transferred from Guideplus

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that when I select a program to be recorded from Guideplus that the title is not transferred. The time/channel etc. work fine it's the program does not have a title. If you look at the program in Record Schedule you get the channel icon where the title should be.

Anyone had a similar problem or know a resolve?

I've had exactly the same problem although it went away for a couple of weeks it is now back. I've noticed it is not on every channel. This goes with the slow uploading of information I reported in another thread.

I haven't figured out how to work around this although I was wondering if a hard disk reformat might help.

Yeah, thinking along those lines but I've got a lot of programs to put on DVD at 'real-mode' speed as mentioned on another thread.

Hi

You can only reformat the hard-disc of the recorder detects a problem.

You can optimise the hard disc anytime without losing your programs, that may help with slow response times.

Optimised the HDD a couple of days ago to try and help with another problem I've got so slow responses shouldn't be an issue. As KK says, problem only occurs on some channels. Could it be a Guideplus problem?

Just been playing with my 'To be recorded' list and deleted a couple of items that didn't have the title name. Set them up and the title is there this time round. Haven't changed anything on the PVR, only difference is Guideplus has updated since last I set them up?!

Anyone else having this problem as I'm now getting it all the time?

Make that most of the time?! Setup several programs across multiple days over the weekend and none of them came up with the program titles. Tried the same today and they all worked?!

Have got the problem logged on Pioneer support page but not had a response in over a week!

I'm still having problems as well. Basically the only uploads that work are in the middle of the night which gives me listings until about 6pm. Then nothing. The EPG light is on from 14.00 to 1600, but nothing seems to be added even though it claims to have 92 files there. It used to be that I could get two or three days in the EPG, but now I basically use Guideplus on manual, which is really a bit of a pain. I've noticed that Guideplus is making a push through its link with the Radio Times, but if this is the way it works I am disappointed.

Well, thanks for letting me 'vent'! But thanks also for contacting Pioneer although I am pretty sure this is a Guideplus problem.

Have noticed the length of the EPG update going down over the past week or so. Currently only have 2 days of showings for BeeB, ITV etc. whereas I used ot get a full week.
KK, are you having the same problem as me ie. titles not being accepted? Have you tried manually setting up a program and then typing in the title? If so does it take?

Yeah, this has been happening to me for a couple of months now and it's driving me mad. Also, when I manually put a title in using edit, it reverts to the time and channel when I save, wiping the title I've manually input. Arrgh!

Tonight I actually have nearly 6 days' worth of listings for some channels - the most I have had in ages. The last several weeks I have been lucky if a handful of channels have loaded any more than one day's worth of progs.

Thanks Buelligan for logging this with Pioneer - let's hope for some sort of response soon.

I, too, am having trouble when I peck in the title of the show as I'm setting it manually only to have it just display the date, time & channel.

I tried going back and doing the set-up again a couple of weeks ago, but that improved nothing.

I also noted that the problem got really bad at about the time the World Cup started and I wondered if it had something to do with the disruption of schedules during the afternoon and early evening feeds, since the 3AM one still seems to work (if it only gives me info for a few hours).

Also, how many channels is your guideplus uploading information about? I've got Telewest, so it is doing it for 40-50 channels. But I used to get lots more files showing in the Guideplus settings page as being uploaded (the page where it says when your last upload was and when the next opportunity will be).

Also, I'm wondering if it is a fault with the local ITV channel which is being used to feed the listings. I'm getting my feed from London ITV, but perhaps others are doing a better job?

Thanks for keeping this dialogue going!

Glad (If that's the word) to see it's not only me. Have been wondering If it was a one off fault on my box. I was leaning towards it being a Guideplus problem but as you now know you loose the title/s If you manually put the details in too which i would think infers it's something to do with the Pioneer. You noticed somedays it happens all the time and other days not at all?!

Don't hold your breath waiting for a response from Pioneer. 8 days and counting now with not even fiorst contact.

KK, just checked last update and received 679 files. I think all channels are updated even If you do not have them switched on because If you turn them on you immediately get a listing. For the first time in several days I have a near 7 day listing for the terrestrial channels and the usual 2-5 days for the rest of Sky.

Buelligan,

After your last paragraph I went to check my latest upload. Unfortunately a mere 27 files! And nothing showing on the grid. But you have given me hope.

Which ITV do you get your upload from? Or do you get it via Eurosport and Sky?

In terms of the name change thing, it is very weird because sometimes it does it one way and sometimes another. I've had it 'forget' what I've typed in and I've had it restore the name a couple of days of just giving the time, etc.

Keep me updated on what happens.

Was that 27 files from a full 2 hour update?

I update from Eurosport.

I've had programs suddenly 'find' their names from the ether as well. Amused me first time it happened as I was beating my head against the wall trying to get the DVR to remember titles only to have it do the job itself.

I'll keep you updated If/when I hear from Pionner.

Yes, 27 from a two-hour update. And nothing more from the evening one. It is very depressing.

Thanks for keeping me updated if Pioneer deigns to get in touch. I'll update if anything happens on my end as well.

A possible resolve?

Just got hold of one of Pioneers top techie bods who immediatley told me to reset the unit when I started describing the symptoms. Seems Guideplus can send out rogue 'bits of data' every now and then that screws with the programming system of the 530s etc. Won't know If it's worked for several days as I've now got a blank Guideplus menu so need to pick up channels and listings over the next day or so but thought it worth letting you guys know incase you want to get on with it.

To reset the system:- Hold down the stop button on the front of the unit (under the square) press stand by (again ON THE UNIT) and let go of the stop button. Job done! Then go back in and set your system and put it back into standby. EPG should then appear which will grab your channels listings but you will have to wait 0-24hours to get program listings.

Will let you know in a couple of days If it resolves the problem.

One thing that Richard said was that he resets his system every couple of months to clear out any rogue data sent by Guideplus. So there ya go.

Thanks for sharing this. I've already reset and will hope this improves things (they couldn't get much worse!).

It's a nice present as well, as this is my birthday.

Will report progress as it emerges.

Much too hot to do anything but sit inside!

Anyway, I reset, and now with the evening epg download I have 716 files and listings for the whole next week on appropriate channels and a few days on others.

So thanks for sharing this info. A major frustration is relieved!!!

Silly question but does this just reset Guide Plus or will it reset the region for the player (which has already be made multiregion)?

Seemed to just reset the system and not undo the multi region on mine (unless I grabbed a wrong DVD by mistake).

6 days in and the problem seems to have gone!

Just had to reset my system again so it looks as If the 'fix' lasts about 4 months.

Pioneer EPG problem - is this similar to (or the same as) us poor $ony users are getting with their woefull 310/710/910 series.

Up until 2 weeks ago, EPG recordings dutifully wrote programmes to the HDD with the programme name - these have now disapeared and all we have is channel name, time and duration - thats if they stop recording at all and we end up with a 16Gb file after the 8 hour max is reached.

The EPG looks OK and the name is there during the recording - but when it finishes - the name is lost.

Ring any bells?

Just in case you haven't noticed. Guideplus has updated its channels list to include 5Life and 5US.
