The data projectors are often cheaper than ones designed for proper home cinema. E.g. Epson can be found cheaper than Sim2.

If you want to watch tv or dvds aswell as use it for pc work then try to avoid a data projector as the impact on tv/dvd picture can be quite high.
Infocus x1 (old model now) is very good dual purose unit, long lamp life, good warranty and cheap. IBM ilv300 is an x1 clone. Screenplay 4800/4805 very good value(these are a variation of the x1 but enhanced on the home cinema side). Panasonic do some decent stuff at the lower end aswell. Sanyo worth a look. Philips also worth a look. Benq & themescene/optoma worth a look. When you find one you are interested in,check lamp life and price. Some projectors are quite cheap but the lamp life may be as low as 1000 or 1500 hrs and be expensive to replace. Lamp life seems to be about 2500hrs as an average. Philips have some with 5000hrs,infocus 3000/4000hrs and prices can vary by hundreds of pounds. Maybe a visit to avforums would be worthwhile aswell. |

The projector bulbs are expensive, replacement Sanyo bulbs, which are the only projectors that I've any real experience of are generally around £200 to £250 to replace. I've found Selectasize (www.selectasize.com) to be very knowledgeable to talk to with regard to getting the best quality projector but they're quite expensive retailers and so would advise shopping elsewhere.
