Thomson TV - Please help!!!

Hello,

I have a 28" CRT Thomson TV (28WR23UG). I have come across a problem and was wondering if there was anyone on here who could help??

Normally I don't even use the coaxial aerial input at all and havent done for about 2 years (as I have Sky+). However I am temporarily moving the TV and require use of the coax input from a sky box. The problem I have got is I need to tune in a channel for the sky to coaxial input (it always used to be chanel 6). However upon connecting the coax input and selecting chanel 6 - nothing just snow. No problem I thought, just retune it in and away I go, so I dug out the remote, put some bateries in and pressed "menu"

Here is where the problems started: when pressing "menu" I don't get the usual menu with all the options it just comes up with "sleep timer" "Warning please set time to use wake up mode" and that is it!! I cannot get to the main menu at all.

I am wondering if there is any way to reset the TV to get back the main menu?? - Anything - Please help me!!!

Eh.... a difficult one. Does your remote do tv,dvd etc? make sure its on tv

One more thing. Are you using rf1 output on your sky box? there are two rf outputs and make sure its on rf1 and not rf2 output. Is the aerial plugged into the box?

Hi,

As a matter of interest what's the chassis model on your Thomson? You should be able to find this out at the back of the set.

If it's an ICC20 if my memory serves me right entering into the hidden engineering menu might help (might not by hey it's worth trying!) to do the switch the TV off using the main on/off button at the front, not standy by. When the set is off hold down the PR + & - buttons, switch the set on while still holding down these buttons, continue to hold the for about 5-10 seconds and an engineering menu will appear.

Nope, I'm wrong I checked my old notes, here's the correct procedure to get into the engineering menu of TV's with the icc20 chassis;

1. Use the remote to put the set into Standby
2. Press and hold the "Vol -" button on the front of the set
3. Press and hold the "Prg -" button on the set. Keep both buttons down for about 8 seconds then the TV will turn on and the service menu will appear

There are a few simple menus, making it pretty easy to adjust all the usual things. While in service mode you can press "Exit" on the remote to get an unobscured, full-screen view of adjustments, after which the Blue FastText button gets you back into the service menus

I have managed to get into the service menu ok, even though it's an icc17. What should I select to do a complete factory reset, I have tried a few things but I must admit I don't really know what I am doing and haven't managed to get the usual menu back to allow tuning of the coax input?

Why not forget about the techy stuff and do what the remote asks..............set some abitrary time (in 5 mins) for it to wake you up!

Once it has gone through this cycle it may return to normal.

Shouldn't matter which one is used, it could even be the other way round. It could be that the output channels are different on RF1 and RF2 so the TV is still the same but it is now connected to RF1 and not RF2 as it previously was.

Try just swapping the cable from RF1 to RF2 or vice-versa. If not, then try connecting to RF2 and then setting the output channel to the lowest one then check the TV, move it up a channel if no picture is there and then repeat until you've been through them all. It's got to be tuned to one of them!

Both rf 1 and 2 operate on same channel.

step back and take another angle on this.

Is sky on ch8 or ch0. you might think its on 6 but it was two years ago.

Is the tv aeriel going to sky then another machine like video? or dvd recorder?

I take a dim view of people like you encouraging non-technical owners to attempt adjustments within a service menu...the end result is that the owners usually totally screw-up their set...the OP's problem will probably be caused by something simple...he can't enter the "tuning" menu because it has been (probably accidently) set to "Hotel" mode...this is a mode designed to lock-out the tuning menu to prevent anyone changing/messing around with it.

Well I managed to clear whatever error (or hotel mode) was causing the menu to be stuck in the sleep timer section. Not sure what I actually did in the service menus but it worked and have now managed to tune the coax input all fine. Many thanks for your help everyone.
