I'd have to go along with that. We didn't need high drama and all the unbelievable crap you got with Eastenders. In fact, I don't know how old you are, but I remember the days of Elsie Tanner and Ena Sharples etc. A good old fight in the street over a cup of sugar was so much more exciting than all the nonsense about people going around murdering other people and not even interviewed by the police! The closest they've come to it in recent years was Fred's wedding. Classic Corrie!
Who on earth believes that fat, out of condition Phil Mitchell could terrify a whole square? Why don't they just all gang up on him and run him out of town? Ridiculous. ”
I agree !
I remember Tanner and Sharples. Great stuff week after week from great actresses. And then oof course we had Annie Walker, Minnie Caldwell, Albert Tatlock, Mavis and Derek, Stan and Hilda, Bet Lynch.
They could all act, the characters carried the show. We cared about them so when I major story line developed we felt involved.
Not like now - with characters we don't know changing their personalities overnight to fit in with the latest storyline !
