Please help HDMI Question

Hi

Trying to connect my DVD Recorder HDMI Output to my HDTV Input using a HDMI-DVI-D Cable

Switched on TV Pressed DVI And then switched on Dvd recorder , The picture changed from no DVI to a blank dark screen

Am I doing something wrong?

Also the dvd recorder has progressive scan and component so i tried connecting it up using the red white and black cables to component but this did not work either, it came up as a blank blue screen too.
The progressive scan option on the DVD rec was also greyed out on the menu.

Tried it with/without scart leads but no luck.

Can anyone help me set up HDMI Or Component output.

I'd be very grateful

Cheers

First does the DVI support HDCP?

As for component make sure you are connecting the component out to the component in (sounds simple) but RCA audio/composite video are very similar

Thanks mate

How could i find out if it supports hdcp?

I will have a look at the connections again but i'm pretty sure i did it correctly

I thought I maybe couldn't use it unless i get this new SkyHD box or can it be used through the normal television picture?

Cheers

Just found it has

-component (T/Pb|Cb/Pr|Cr) video inputs
-DVI input
-2 x SCART audio/video inputs
-Composite video input
-Composite audio/video output
-Multiple stereo audio inputs corresponding to each video input
-3.5mm stereo head phone output
-3.5mm audio line-in input

Does that help?

The DVI specs should be in the manual, that aside checking the manufacturers website or a retailers might help.
What is the make/model?

You can feed the HD display with SD from either the DVDr or SKY using scarts so I assume that is what you have been doing so far, it may be that there are more options in the DVDr setup to turn on Component and enable Prog scan.

Quite complicated lol

Just found out it would of been better if the tv was hd ready instead of a hdtv but i didn't realise there was a difference

There is

HD Ready means there are component and HDCP enabled digital inputs that support 50hz and 60hz sources as well as having a resolution that is upto the job.
HDTV Ready or HD compatible normally means at least one of the above is missing and while the display can still be used it may have limitations as more digital sources become the norm.
