i thought EXT1 was the rgb scart socket!

try switching through modes on your tv, try turning it off/on at the wall if you dont know what im on about, try plugging something into all your scart sockets aswell (for instance all your dvd players) then turn them on and see if you get a picture on EXT1 or whatever

hope that helps

This is the second time you've posted this.
I replied to your first post asking you to report back with the model no.
If you want a helpful constructive reply...YOU MUST POST THE MODEL NO...it is not good enough to say you have a Philips TV as there are dozens of different chassis fitted to hundreds of Philips TV models.
I can reply with a reason for your fault when I know the model no.

Certainly does.
First of all make sure the remote control is in TV mode by pressing the TV button which is the second button down on the LHS.
Now if you push the AV button...top left...it should cycle through
AV1
AV2
AV3
Front
and then back to a program no
Does it do this?...
if not go in to the "Installation","Setup", "Digital Sources" menu and make sure you do not have "None" opposite AV1.

Done that and in digital sources when you scroll through it goes

EXT1
EXT2
EXT3
NONE
FRONT

When you cycle through with the button on remote it runs:

.......you just get the channel number your on here
(sky+ )
(DVD)
EXT3
FRONT

Sky & DVD must have been renamed at some stage by the guy who fitted it all up, when i had a problem a few months back

Is this right?

Yes, that's the way it should be, Philips are quite good in that you can rename the AV inputs to a more meaningful name.
So as long as you're getting Sky+ (on the renamed EXT1) everythings okay.

Thank you for sorting that out.

One more question, i am thinking of getting a Sony RDR-HX525 or liteon 5055GLX (think they are the right numbers??)

Which would you recommend?

How would i connect them to be able to record things from my sky+ HDD to DVD or DVD HDD

I would take the Sony over the Liteon everytime...it's much better made and more reliable.
Just run a scart from the Sky+ TV scart to the DVDRs AV input and a scart from its output to the TV EXT1...The DVDR should passthrough the signal when not in use.
