On the TF5800 is there a facility to control/adjust the following:

Colour
Contrast
Brightness
Sharpness

Also where can I find updates/software/Downloads etc for the TF5800?

I think you need to make those adjustments on your TV not on the Toppy.

The Toppy has no such settings. Have any separate domestic video source ever had such things? e.g. Set Top Boxes; VCRs; DVDs; etc.
I have never had one that did.

I suppose they might serve a purpose if you wanted to balance one source with another to avoid any changing of TV settings when switching sources.

Alien perhaps downloading the Toppy manual might answer some of your questions.

My Dreambox does, paradoxically. Or at least it has a menu entitled LCD with things like "brightness" "Contrast" etc, in it.

Well I have just ordered the TF5800 for £279.95 -250GB, should arrive in few days.

So I'm sure it will have a manual in Klingon.

If you're savvy I doubt you'll need it. Just press al of the buttons to see what they do and you'll be soon sorted.

When if the toppy.org.uk very becomes of great help and the youve it approves your head gets in it surroundings as soon as, the operationg manual with it in small quantity is odd in the way of translation.

But if you just pres all of the buttons on the remote you can sort of build a mental manual.

Or you read can manual before driving operation in ordering to effect the learning of tools various.

When setting the timer will it then go into stanby mode?

Also when seting timer, can I switch the TV off or will this have go into stanby mode?

To set a timer, just press record in the EPG.
tto put it tin standby, just press standby.
if theres something being recorded, put it in sleep mode ( options, sleep time, select ten minutes, it will then count down 10 mminues, then Wait for the recording to finish beofre going into standby.

the Toppy can operate independantly of the TV.

I still can't adjust the colour control on the TV? Only when its on analouge?

When I switch to digital (Toppy) the AV output on menu is set to RGB.

However, the picture is clean,sharp and clear, but the colour is too strong/vibrant not real life like.it makes my eyes hert. Howver, with AV output set to RGB it will not allow me to change the colour settings on the tv?


Also, when adjusting the volume, I have to use the TV remote which works like a master volume, then the toppy remote acting as a secondary volume which I have to turn up high to get any sound?

Surely I can adjust colour on RGB mode?

Any tips on the above please?

You have manually to select the TV tuner on the TV to be able to see the TV OSD. You adjust the TV picture settings in the TV OSD, it has nothing to do with the settings on the Toppy.

You are right about the volume control: it is annoying.

Is your TV fairly old ? I had the same problem on my early 90's Panasonic which effectively passed RGB signals straight to the tube - bypassing the colour, brightness and contrast controls. I too, had a sharp picture but oversaturated colours and there was no way of making any adjustments.

You could try s-video output from the Topfield if your TV can handle it otherwise I reckon you'll have to make do with setting the output to composite.

OK, you won't have quite the clarity of RGB but it should still be better than analogue.

The 'Toppy' A/V output setting is as follows:

TV Type = Multi

Video output = RGB

VCR scart type = External A/V

TV Ratio = 16:9

Sound mode = stereo

RF output = PAL1

RF channel = 36


The tv scart output from Toppy is connected to AV1 scart input on tv which is normally RGB input.

My TV is a Sony Super Trinitron Wide, manual printed in 1996?

Oh, I tried S-Video output from toppy, all I get is black and white pic no colour?

Could the RGB colour control be effected on how I have connected the cables to the toppy?

I followed manual (confusing) so this is my connection:

Aerial connected to Toppy ANT1

TV AV1/RGB scart input connected to Toppy TV scart Out

RF loop2 out on toppy connected to RF in on toppy

RF loopout1 on toppy connected to ANT2 on toppy

RF Output on toppy connected to RF in/out on TV


So am I going wrong somewhere?

Basically I have a TV with RF in/out and scart AV1/RGB in + AV2 scart

Some TV's allow colour control in RGB mode, some do not however.

My old Sony widescreen TV (Gen1) does not allow colour control, the Sony Wega in the main room does allow colour control though.

Dam! That's a real shame. Means I have to look for a new Screen/Panel monitor.

Strange How my FTA satellite reciver allows colour control via RGB thru my TV.

Would a AV/RGB control switch box do the trick?
