Don't you just plug stuff into it?

I didn't think it was generally recommended you use the two pole output sometimes found on the back of amplifiers to power other items.
Firstly, there must be some effect on the host amplifier which could affect the quality of the sound. Secondly, two poles are dangerous - they aren't earthed, and I get the impression that as you plug in/unplug them the poles of the plugs may still be live and dangerous if grasped incorrectly - or something like that. Don't they contravene some sort of regulation, I didn't think they could be fitted any more. |

You can use them as long as they are correctly used. You are confusing safety sleeves on plugs and 2 pin plugs. Shaver plugs are still used, they're 2 pin.
Not having an earth isn't dangerous as long as the appliances you are using don't require an earth. |

They were originally designed to allow things like CD players and tape decks to take their power from the amp so that an entire system of seperates wouldn't need too many plugs - trying to appeal to buyers of upper model mini systems. They are perfectly safe, providing you only plug the right stuff in - however, I wouldn't use them purely so that each item had its own relatively clean mains supply, hence ensuring the best sound quality.
