Hi

I've just purchased a Liteon DVD Recorder but have absolutely no idea how I should connect it to my existing set up. Can anyone give advice as to how to connect the following

Bush 28" Widescreen Tv
Sky+
Liteon DVD Recorder
VCR

With the DVD Recorder I have been provided with the usual Audio/Video Cable and RF Cable, No scart.

My intention is to be able to record from Sky+ to the DVD Recorder and also be able to copy my videos from the VCR to the DVD Recorder and hopefully have a decent picture and sound quality across the board.

I make no excuses for being useless when it comes to stuff like this and have lookd at the following site

http://www.dtg.org.uk/consumer/connection_wizard.html

but it only gives diagrams for connecting either a VCR or DVD Recorder, not both in the same set up.

Can anyone please advise how to connect all this up and what cables to use between each unit.

Your help would be very gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Also forgot to point out that the VCR only has one Scart port, all the other equipment has two.

Thanks again

Try scart hookup like this....

tv - Sky box - dvd recorder - tape

The sky box should have 2 sockets, and most likely so will the dvd recorder. And if indeed it does, make sure you get the sockets on the dvd the right way round. What I mean is that to save costs, some dvd recorder only have a single fully wired/bi-directional scart, while the other is 1-way (input only) and only supports composite quality. The dvd handbook will clarify this.

With that in mind, the tape should connect to the 2nd basic/input scart on the dvd. So you can play old tapes and transfer them to disc. But you wont be able to record from sky or dvd on to tape unless you swap the scarts over - but I would guess that you wouldnt want to put much new stuff on tape anyway. The main in/out-rgb dvd scart should be linked to the 2nd scart (has been marked vcr) on the Sky box. Then, yet another scart linking the main tv scart to the tv scart on the Sky.

Thanks Dave although it still sounds complex for my simple brain to take in.

The Sky+ box has a VCR Scart and TV Scart at the back.
The DVDR has Scart in(Aux Decoder) and Scart out (TV) at the back.

How do they fit in with your explanation?

In fact, i've tried to simplify it by taking the VCR out of the equation for the time being and have set up as follows although I'm guessing its wrong as I can tune the channels in but the Sky+ is a shocking picture, help!

Sky Dish to Sky+ via AERIAL IN
Sky+ RF Out to DVDR RF IN
DVDR RF OUT to TV RF IN
SKY+ TV SCART to DVDR SCART IN (Aux Decoder)
DVDR SCART OUT (tv) to TV AV1

Set up should be as follows:

Sky Dish to Sky+ via AERIAL IN
Sky+ RF Out to DVDR RF IN
DVDR RF OUT to TV RF IN
SKY+ TV SCART to DVDR SCART IN (Aux Decoder)
DVDR SCART OUT (tv) to TV AV1
SKY+ VCR SCART to VCR SCART IN/OUT

When watching Sky you should set the DVDR input to be AV2 (AUX DECODER) not channel 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc

the only issue you may have is that the Liteon may not accept an RGB input signal from Sky+ (the TV scart on Sky+ can output RGB or Composite (video) by a setting in one of the menus). You may find that you have to set this back to Video so as to be compatible with the Liteon.
