I have a Technosonic tv which I would like to connect to a VCR and a standard DK- digital dvd-558 DVD player

I also have a Sky+ box, which has been connected to the tv via scart plug. I am willing to remove that, however the engineer fixed the rest and I don't really want to play around with that.

DVD Player - DK- digital dvd-558 (1 Scart)
TV - Technosonic (Scart av1, av2)
Sky+ - Amstrad (2 scart)

The technosonic video control also has a function labelled AV and tunes to channels Av1 and av2 (if thats any help )

Thanks in advance

Simple.

Sky box "TV" SCART --> TV "AV2" SCART
Sky box "VCR" SCART --> VCR SCART
DVD SCART --> TV "AV1" SCART

Allows you to record off Sky on the VCR by selecting whatever the VCR labels it's SCART input (AV, AU, AUX Ext E, Line L being the common ones).

To watch Sky select AV2 on the TV, for DVDs select AV1. To replay videos you simply select AV2 on the TV and press PLAY on the VCR. The Sky box should then detect this and feed the VCR signal on to the TV.

Depending on how your TV handles RGB video signals you may want to use that for the DVD for the best picture quality. Many TVs only handle RGB on one SCART, usually AV1. Hence my suggestion you use AV1 for the DVD as that is most likely to be the RGB enabled one.

My current set up consists of :

Harwa 27" tv with 2 scarts , av1 & av2.
Amstrad Sky Digital box (not sky +) with 2 scarts
Samsung dvd player/vdr combi box with just the 1 scart.

I'm generally happy with the way everything's wired up , but on the rare occasions when i watch telly via the video signal (set to ch 13 on the telly!), the picture is like a blizzard in the arctic ! However , when playing videos back the picture is fine.

Any help on what my correct scart wiring up should be, would be appreciated.

Cheers!

DVD/VCR ---> Sky VCR scart
Sky TV scart ---TV AV1

Ext aerial cable ---> VCR RF in
VCR RF out ---> TV RF in
(no need to include Sky in the RF loop as you can record Sky to VCR using scart)

You can watch analog TV (say) while recording Sky to VCR (set VCR input to AV1)

To watch Sky select AV1 on the TV.

You can record analog using RF and viedo+ etc in the normal way.

Thanks for the help I

The dvd payer is working great but the video doesn't seem to be working.
The connections are all in the right place, do I have to programme the Video player?

It's showing CH1 on the panel next to the timer 0:01

When I change it but it goes from 1 to 48 or it shows SA, L1, L2. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Do I need to connect an aerial to the tv?

Did you go to scart on the tv to see the VCR picture?

If this reply was in response to my post , then thanks very much.

I'm at work all day ,so can't check my actual set up now .

The scart layout sounds familiar , but i may need to tweak the rf cables around a bit. i think the outside aerial's plugged into the sky box at the minute!

Thanks again !

If you press play on the VCR the signal should loop thropugh the Sky box and be visible on TV AV2 (as in chrisjr's example).

You only need to program the VCR if you wish to record terrestrial TV which you might do while watching Sky.
You will need the TV aerial plugged into the VCR then looped into the TV.
To record Sky via scart set the VCR to the appropriate setting (L1 if the scart form Sky is plugged into L1, L" if plugged into L2). Once you have set this up you can leave it on this. Any changes needed for recording analog TV 1,2,3,4,5 etc will be handled by Video+.
