The cheapest line rental is one you don't have to pay for.

Get yourself a PAYG SIM and just pay for the calls you make - subject to about 1 chargeable call every 6 months on most of the major networks

www.easymobile.com is probably your best bet it has all the benifits of contract on pay as you go.

How about free?

Does free work for you

PayGo phones are incredibly cheap, especially if you are have a low usage profile.

Virgin seem to be the best if you are likely to have days when you make calls but less than five minutes of them.

I would say Virgin have lost the lowest priced position now and T-Mobile has taken over it as with T-Mobile you can get xnet calls for 12p/min or 3p texts to anyone or 5p/min calls and texts to anyone.

I pay £0 over 12 months for o2 leisure time plus. (12 months contract).

Just look at all the deals where you claim your money back.

Couldn't agree more, Tesco Value have the same standard tariff.

They may not have the promotional offers that EM run from time to time, but they have none of the hidden charges that plague EM.

I'm with Tesco Value. It's saved me loads of money. 15p/min to all networks and 5p texts.

For me, the headline figure is how much it costs to phone a land line if I just want to make a couple of one minute calls per day.

For that, Virgin are still way cheaper than T-Mobile.

I'm not sure how much T-Mobile charge to call landlines.
