Sony 725: Does the Guideplus work with Sky Freesat box
clarinet

I am thinking of purchasing a 725, does the guideplus system work with a Sky Freesat box? I have asked aerial installers, dealers and even tried to ask Sky(but that was hopeless) and nobdy seems to know. This could really apply to any machine if it has guideplus.

Any help gratefully received.

I've got a Philips DVD recorder with guideplus and you can configure it to display different EPG setups such as Freeview and telewest and Sky as well I believe.
I'm not sure what channels you get on freesat, but i'm sure guideplus will have all the channels in one of it's configurations.

I purchased a RDR-HX725 last week. The good news so far as you are concerned that the Guide Plus facility is available in conjunction with a Sky set top box (Panasonic in my case) . The bad news for me is that at present having highlighted the proogramme to be recorded on the GuidePluds screen and selected the red Record button the hard drive is failing to record, hence no playback of course. There is the same lack of respomse if I use the alternative VideoPlus option.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere (there, isn't that helpful ) that the guideplus info is carried on Eurosport, and you have to leave the Sky box on overnight tuned to that.

Assistance in resolving problem with Sony RDR-HX725 and GuidePlus would be appreciated. The GuidePlus listings are downloaded but when a programme is hightlighted and red recordbutton selected there is no reponse, and the Schedule screen does not reveal any progamme as due to be recorded.

I believe that the Guide+ DVDR only sends a channel change signal to the sat STB, not a "come out of standby" signal, so unless you leave the STB on all the time you are stuffed.

Iirc from previous postings on these forums, if you select Ch410 (Eurosport) and then press the 'TV', then 'TEXT' buttons on the Sky remote, see if the text service shows. If it does, then the download should work if the Digibox is left on (regardless of Freesat or paid).

Although as said, it's probably easier if you can receive analogue ITV, and set that as the data donor.
