quick question.

I currently have a desktop system upstairs that has a bt
broadband server and I have just bought a new media centre for the downstairs frontroom.

Do I need to purchase another broadband package or can I take a feed from the existing one?

This is exactly what i have and as long as you have a decent speed conection you can share it. I have a 2MB cable connection. You could also have a wireless router directly connected to your line/modem and share it that way to save wires as that is also what i have and it works perfectly.

Hope that that helped...

You don't need a decent speed connection to share it, you can share dial-up if you like.

Best option would be to get a network cable to link the 2 computers together and, assuming you are currently using a USB modem, get something along the lines of a Netgear DG834 to plug everything into.

Just to clear up on your other point, you can't have more than one broadband package on one line.

As long as it can be done , I'm sure I can figure it out eventually.

Cheers for the replies.

Hi sorry to clarify i agree with Lurch in the fact that you doan't need a fast connection to actually share the connection, but given the fact you said that you were using media centre and possibly downloading files etc that is why i made the comment about needing a fastish connection.

You don't need a fastish connection, it's an advantage but not a neccesity.
