Broadband for media centre.
quick question.
I currently have a desktop system upstairs that has a bt broadband server and I have just bought a new media centre for the downstairs frontroom. Do I need to purchase another broadband package or can I take a feed from the existing one? |

This is exactly what i have and as long as you have a decent speed conection you can share it. I have a 2MB cable connection. You could also have a wireless router directly connected to your line/modem and share it that way to save wires as that is also what i have and it works perfectly.
Hope that that helped... |

You don't need a decent speed connection to share it, you can share dial-up if you like.
Best option would be to get a network cable to link the 2 computers together and, assuming you are currently using a USB modem, get something along the lines of a Netgear DG834 to plug everything into. Just to clear up on your other point, you can't have more than one broadband package on one line. |

Cheers for the replies. |

Hi sorry to clarify i agree with Lurch in the fact that you doan't need a fast connection to actually share the connection, but given the fact you said that you were using media centre and possibly downloading files etc that is why i made the comment about needing a fastish connection.
