I have to say that the England game looks fab via the Toppy watched a bit of Sky HD an hour before the England game, and to my eyes it gives it a good run for it's money

Noticed a few blackouts though during the match

Seems to have affected all the broadcast methods so the thinking is it was a host broadcaster problem..

Are saying the 'Toppy' has a better PQ then Sky HD?

So how have you connected this up to your TV? As there so many options on the manual and very confusing?

May be thats were my problem is, I have connected all the connections at the back of the toppy, but cant control the colour on tv when out putting to RGB?

Regards

not necessarily better than Sky HD, but certainly up there! I have my Toppy connected via a scart to a Panny plasma.

I guess looking at the comet demo, they may not have fully exploited the connectivity.

If you aren't using a big plasma I do not believe the average person could tell any difference whatsoever between freeview and Sky HD (Toppy or whatever other box really).

Picture will only be as good as the weakest bit, I know people who've spent over £100 on a scart cable and swear they can tell the difference to the free one that comes with the kit - rubbish, same rule applies, weakest link is normally the display in 99% of households.

Mmmmm?
There is a huge difference between using a tacky scart and my quality scart. There really is.

Yes, although it is very close.

RGB Scart has a signal wire for each colour. S-Video encodes the colour signal onto a single wire and the luminence signal onto another. This encoding can result is slight errors with the worst when a red and green background are next to each other. These 2 colours are diaganly opposed signals when encoded onto the colour line so usually cause a boundry to be seen between them.

How much is it worth spending on a good scart then ? You take my point that after a certain point diminishing returns mean you're wasting cash.

My Toppy is fab for avoiding the World Cup. I'm hardly even aware that it's on!

I bought a £15 scart from Currys and could not believe the difference in PQ from the cheapo Toppy cable. Makes me wonder if an even better quality scart would improve things further.

Probably not. The law of diminishing returns sets in very quickly for interconnects. I think your price point is right for all but the most obessive of audio/videophiles who are big on self-delusion.
