Just watching tonights Emmerdale and it looks like they film it in a different way. A bit like ER. Perhaps they should rename it OO Ah!

It is awful and when i try to describe it i can't.

How do you put it into words? And what is it really called? What type of filming method is it?

its called FRV and they basically remove a few frames a second from the video.

Although many hate it, I personally quite like the effect.

Ahh, so that's it. I couldnt put my finger on it. I also noticed that the picture fills the whole (widescreen) frame now too (at last!).

Emmerdale has been W/S since January 6th!

It looks truly dreadful. it doesn't suit the programme at all, all it made me do was turn off. Whilst I expect there will be thousands of others wanting to complain anyone know an email address I can complian to ITV with?

BTW I've sent a compalin to dutyoffice@itv.com (the only decent ITV email address I can find) telling them how bad I think it is. I urge everyone else who doesn't like it to do the same. The won't get rid of it without negative public response (though I'm sure if all Ememrdale viewers knew how to contact them they would get several thousand complaints).

I thought they were just filming it that way for the wedding episode, but having watched last night I noticed it was still the same. Dunno whether I like/dislike it - it's just different and I expect that most people will just get used to it after a while and forget it was ever any other way.

Dunno. they think it looks professional, but it doesn't it looks cheap and nasty. It isn't filmed that way, it's added in post production. I think this has been proved by the fact ITV2 showed the Wedding & last night's ep properly earlier today.

Well, I got a reply back from the ITV dut y office saying they'd forwarded my email to them anyway, so the right people will get my complaint.

I don't think it is that bad at all really. Has'nt put me off in the slightest. It is still better than the NTSC transfers done for ER and Buffy (on Sky).

I am also extremely angry about the way that video is processed to achieve this effect. I would like to know WHY? When digital video gives us superb quality on large screen TV’s do they degrade it this way. The sound is also affected and the dialogue sounds distant as if the mic is to far away.
I have sent an email to Yorkshire TV (viewers@yorkshire.tv.co.uk ) asking this question. I urge other people to do the same or they may corrupt Corry this way. I topped watching Brookside when they destroyed that; perhaps this speeded up its demise.

"I am also extremely angry about the way that video is processed to achieve this effect. I would like to know WHY?" says Dave Baker.

Why does this make you so angry ? What other emotions or extremes of emotions can be produced from such trivial TV trickery - the next big shock will be the loss of the spinning box in the corner of the screen before the adverts........

"I couldn't believe my eyes.....just settling down looking forward to the ad breaks and low and behold no spinning box ! I nearly strangled the dog I was that upset....."

Chill Dave.

I was just about to post a thread called "Emmerdale - can anyone explain whats happened" when I saw this thread.... It looks absolutely BLOOD AWFUL and on my iDTV which is w/s but only 50Hz when the camera moves quickly it makes you feel seasick.

And why have they started insisting on panning the camera around a centre point when it's a "dramatic moment".

E-mail to YTV on it's way me thinks.....

I understand that Irish viewers on TV3 get to see the Emmerdale eps, nom-filmic! Why do they get to enjoy the shows properly and we have to suffer that horrible filmic look?
