Pioneer 420 quality problem
I, Mustard Mitt
11-06-2006
Hi,
I've been using my 420 happily for about three years now but last weekend upgraded my old CRT tv to a new Smasung Le26r74bdx. What I've found is that my Thomson PVR playback quality is fantastic as is my Pioneer home cinema set up. Quality problems come with my Pioneer DVR 420. The quality of recordings seem to be about the same as an old VCR. It doesn't matter if this is recorded from the aerial or recording archived material from the PVR. I've tried differnet cables and inputs on the TV but nothing helps. Could it be a tuning problem between the TV and the DVD recorder? If so, is there a way of tuning the TV to one of it's inputs? Any ideas?

You will be using a Scart lead to connect the Pioneer to the tv so you can't "tune" it in.You just switch to that input.
Is the Pioneer going directly to the tv or is it passing through another device on the way?
If its going via a different scart input you may find that input is not RGB capable.
Connect the Pioneer output to the VCR scart input of the Freeview PVR then its tv scart out to the tv.This should allow RGB viewing from the PVR and the Pioneer.
What quality level are you recording in on the 420?
Have you accidentally changed it?
Is it set to output RGB?
What is standard dvd played on the Pioneer like?

Hi,
The Pioneer is using a scart directly to the TV and the output is set to RGB. I already have the PVR and DVD recorder connected in the way you suggest. Playing a DVD on the machine gives a decent enough output (though not as good as my home cinema player). I've checked the recording quality and set it to 'fine' for the moment. I was wondering whether upscaling - or lack of it - may be a problem? Though why my home cinema set up (which is quite old) has a better picture, I don't know.
