Hi,

I'm on a 12 month contract with O2 done by the carphonewarehouse.

It comes to and end in September, what steps do I need to take to cancel the contract?

Thanks

hey buddy -

give o2 a call direct in august and give them your 30 days notice that you want out of your contract after the 12 months

If you want to find out the exact date of expiry call them asap and then its a case of waiting for august to give them another call to notify them u want to cancel it.

not sure if o2 need written confirmation..if so get their address and pop a letter in the post/ or fax one through if they allow that

hope that helps!

Thanks for letting me know about that, was what I thought.

Just as an aside question, do contracts after the 12 month contractual period continue on a month by month basis or roll over automatically for another 12 months?

No your contract is for a bare minimum of 12 months, after that you are not olbiged to keep the contract for any longer than you require, so as long as your giving your 30 days then thats fine.

Its seems these days alot of new contracts are for 18months.

Yeh true, I guess its just a source of guranteed income for the companies!

But with regards to the OP, you have signed a 12 month contract then after that your free to cancel as long as you give your notice!

its month by month basically, a case of a rolling contract after month 12....you can cancel it any point after your contract expires

The billing is in advance so its best to cancel the direct debit as soon as you cancel the contract. Unless someone else knows different???

Don't cancel the DD immediately.

The line rental is charged in advance, but other charges are made in arrears (e.g call costs). If you cancel the DD, then these charges won't be able to be collected as normal - but the debt won't just disappear.

I thought you could cancel (ie give notice) within the 11 month as the 30 days notice period takes you to your minimum (12 month) term?

you can (as said above me!) do that , but i was replying to the question of if u dont cancel the 12 month contract, what happens after the expiry is that it becomes a "rolling" contract in that u can cancel it at any point (from month 12, 13, 14, 15 etc) - you basically will pay each month a bill as per normal, but in the knowledge u can leave any time
