self check problem

my panny dmr10 keeps running self checks switches off, then on, then self check then off, over and over again. and i am una ble to stop it.
I think the I have a faulty disc as it took a long time to format and the last programme failed to record.
machine is out of warrentry so would it help if i opened the machine and removed the disc

No need to open the unit to remove the disc, you need to use the emergency eject function.

Switch the unit to standby by pressing and holding the "Power" button unit the unit begins to power down and then release it.

Emergency eject a disk : With the unit OFF (in standby), press and hold "Power", "Stop" and "Channel Up" for 5 seconds.

You may also need this function.

To toggle the disk eject from "LOCK" to "UNLOCK": With the unit ON, press and hold "Power" and "Stop" for 5 seconds.
