Connecting Laptop to TV?

Im wondering what the quality from Laptop > TV is like? I have a widescreen TV that I want to connect my laptop what would I need to do this would I need some kind of converter? Obiously I want picture and sound.. Im curently using Sky By Broadband to download TV movies onto my laptop and the quality is superb, would I get the same quality as I am with sky connected to my TV and would it be full screen?

It will depend on the graphics adaptor in the laptop so it is a difficult question to answer. It will also depend on whether the TV can take the VGA output from the laptop directly, or if the laptop has an S-video output for example.

Obviously using the S-video output you will lose some of the picture quality.
