I've just heard the remix Tony Christie's done of Amerilo for the world cup. It's really bad.
IMO Tony Christie is milking it for all its worth and doesn't seem to be giving much thanks to Peter Kay eaither (if it wasn't for him Amerilo wouldn't have been re-released and Tony Christie would be in obscurity)
I think its sad that Amerilo was re-released for charity and yet, Tony Christie is still trying to make a huge profit out of it.

What's the problem? It's his song, let him earn money from it. Would you give every penny that you earn to charity? Would ya? Eh? Eh?

It is shockingly bad , even for a World Cup song

It's one of those things that should be left alone in the hope that it goes away if we ignore it

I think it's actually Neil Sedaka's song, but he must have allowed him to change the lyrics, but they are really, really bad.

this version is just very bad, the lyrics sound like they were made up in 5 minutes, the chorus is atrocious and just not sometihng to sing along to like the original and he should have just said no to this

I saw a clip of this song on Sky News the other day and wasn't really impressed. The problem is (I think) there are about 30+ songs to represent us in this World Cup - this rehash of Amarillo just being one of them. It's a shame they've done this, but money talks - I expect people will still buy it though!

it's dreadful!

And there's a Stan Boardman song in the top 20 too, about the Germans bombing his chippy!

I think there may have been a bit of overkill with World Cup songs this time around...

Good Luck to him. This guy is a legend of the seventies. Let him enjoy himself with his footy song at least you don't want to cut your wrists after hearing it.
I reckon It'll go top 3 next week

Its even worst than "Is This The Way To Santa's Grotto?" from last year...How many versions and adaptions is Tony Christie gonna do before he finally gives it a rest?

I think this version COULD have been really good

BUT

who wrote those lyrics????? You have to start the chorus with 'Show Me The Way To....' or it just doesn't work.

I didn't know he did a Christmas version too - but I'm glad I missed that one! It sounds like TC is turning into a human version of the Crazy Frog at this rate! As for how many future versions, etc I guess he'll just keep going until the money stops coming in - but I think he'll only damage his career in the long run if he continues down this route.

The original was bad enough without this!! Football songs will always be dreadful though!

Football "singers" all sound the same, its hilarious! Whether they are from Newcastle, Plymouth or Dagenham....their accent/vocals all seem to sound identical, yet when they speak normally, they sound world (counties) apart!

Throw him a packet of straws.

It'll give him something to clutch at.
