My son got back yesterday from the download festival and said Prodigy were excellent but GNR were complete rubbish. They did no songs like welcome to the jungle or November rain. Anyone else go?

I wasn't there, but according to NME (who, despite their reputation, would presumably recognise Welcome to the Jungle and November Rain at a GNR gig) they opened with Welcome to the Jungle and played November Rain about half way through!

I heard completely different! Guns N Roses put on a great show, but the crowd just threw abuse at them the entire time!

Even Izzy the old guitarist joined them for a couple of songs! Most reviews ive read from magazines/sites that usually hate GNR applauded them for their performance.

The problem with Download is if your not Metallica playing your nothing to them! All they want to see is Metallica, Slipknot and System of a Down!

of course they played Welcome to The Jungle and November Rain! I know coz I was there. and i don't agree with the "if you're not Metallica..." comment either, I met loads of people with really diverse music taste

I went, didn't see GnR though. It's not Guns n Roses, really, is it, it's Axl Rose and a new band. Nah - not interested.

Rubbish, though, that if it's not Metallica people don't care at Donington, Metallica were definitely the highlight for me but in no particular order, also great were Coheed & Cambria, Dragonforce, Korn (under the circumstances!!), Avenged Sevenfold and Lacuna Coil. And the main stage was packed from start to finish!

Pulled my son this morning for making me look like a right idiot on here and he confessed he missed the first few songs because he was at Prodigy. He still says they were crap though because they kept playing stupid guitar solo's. He has an eclectic (sp) taste in music but says they were the worst he had seen.

Hehe don't start me off on the Prodigy. I'm amazed no-one was killed in there tbh, the security was non-existent and people were just shoving their way in when there was no room, climbing up the stands holding the tent up - it was mayhem...

...and they weren't even that good

Whilst i like GnR songs its only Axl now, so it doesnt seem like GnR. Axl's voice hasnt held up over the last 15 years, he definately struggled to reach some of the notes, getting Sebastian Bach to duet My Michelle was a great idea though, seemed to make Axl work harder.
There were plenty of other good acts on over the weekend besides Metallica, whilst they are a big name pull, people definately went to see other bands as well.
I really rated Dredg who played in the Snickers tent on Friday, Soil and Strapping Young Lad were entertaining, On Saturday i was really impressed with Blood Simple, Arch Enemy and Alice In Chains were fantastic. Alter Bridge were great, shame they clashed with Metallica, but i saw the first 4 songs and they rocked... Was impressed with Lacuna Coil as well

Strapping Young Lad were fantastic! I wish theyhad been on the second or third stage so they could've had longer, Devin Townsend really is a genius (and I don't use that to describe many people)
Did anyone see Tool? I was quite interested in seeing them but Backyard Babies and Ginger (both of whom were absolutely fantastic- bands of the weekend, seriously) clashed with them so I didn't watch

From what I've heard it was meant to be (if not a classic) then at least ok.. and wern't there storm-troopers or something on stage for bits of it?

Can't have been that bad... guess I will have to wait for the clip shows this weekend on Sky
