Playback stopped
Bat-man
13-06-2006
Whilst watching a recording on my Topfield yesterday evening it suddenly stopped playing and a message came on the TV screen to say so.
It happened as the two recordings sheduled for the same time started - this shouldn't cause a problem.
I simply pressed the play button on the remote and the play resumed from where it stopped.
It's not a huge problem but somewhat disconcerting.
The two recordings recorded as they should.
Is this normal?
Thank you.

Hey Batman,

Got my Toppy round about the same time as yourself, fantastic piece of kit innit? I must admit I've never experienced that particular chestnut you describe, but it does happen to me during "chase play" or "timeslipping" when the prog finishes in real time, playback stops and its just a case of, as you say resuming from where you left off. If my memory serves me correctly, I think this has been added to a Topfield "wishlist of enhancements somewhere. Although a mild irritation to me, when you look at problems experienced by other manufacturers boxes aren't we a well informed pair of individuals to have chosen the Toppy.
From your first postings...did you ever get round to installing the "my stuff" taps etc? I havent been keeping up with recent postings...too busy with the toppy . But if not you should really consider it, much much better EPG and very easy to configure. SWMBO thinks its the dogs dangly bits.

Cheers

Eh-up Paul.

I haven't used any TAPs yet but may do in the future.
I'm really pleased with the Topfield.

Just a few gripes that I know some can be sorted using TAPs:
EPG a bit naff really.
Problems coming out of standby after a power cut.
Front panel display during record - yuk.
Mine stops play when two recordings start.

But on the up-side:
Good picture quality.
Versatile file management.
Apparent good build quality.
Big hard disk.

Yeah I understand what your saying Batman,
apologies for banging on about the TAPS. Fortunately for me, I was aware of the vanilla Toppy's shortcomings before I bought it so can't really complain too much. Hopefully, we will all get another firmware update some time in the future too sort out everyone's little glitches.

Keep Smilin

The playback interruption is one of the things that's pretty high up on the list for fixing, but Topfield have said it will take time - it's a major re-write or some core code, apparently, so they don't want to rush it.

Meanwhile, there are two TAPs that will automatically restart; a free one, called mcgCYRresume will take you back to where you were, and the Premium version of ImproBox (€15) does that, and an awful lot more.

I'm not going to comment on what's in the next update, other than to say that beta testing is going on.

Nigel.

Thanks for that.
It's nice to know that it's not just my box then.
