I'm already familiar with the software, as i have the satellite equivlanet (TF5500)

Can anyone tell me what "must have" TAPS i should have installed.

Are there better EPGs out there - maybe see more on the screen, like Sky+ 's?

Cheers!

Unfair to say what is better then another as individuals have their own preferences. Here is what I use and why ...

EPG Navigator v2a - a great, easy to use EPG that gathers from Freeview EPG data in the middle of the night. It has a nice grid layout which I really like. (Alternative: Lots of people like MyStuff and I can see why, but I haven't tried because I'm not sure how to populate the EPG data automatically). Whether you use this one or not, a decent EPG is a must IMO.

FastSkip v1.01 - great TAP to jump through the ad breaks. Again, a 'skipping' TAP is a must IMO.

Archive v0.07 - mainly for the ability to restart a recroding where you last finished watching. (Alternative: AutoResume). Agian a must have IMO.

UKOZ Surfer - I use to replace the PIP button. Not a must have but a nice to have.

I have no issues with key conflicts either with this set up.

I'm interested to see what people put in this thread. To see what works well together and what people have.

You can restart watching from where you left off without any TAPs, as long as you have the December (5.12.25) firmware or later; selecting a file in the standard archive and pressing OK starts from the beginning, while pressing Play resumes from where you last stopped watching.

I would also suggest that manikm downloads the new manual, which won't be shipping in the box for a couple of weeks. We have it available for download via www.toppy.org.uk/static/newManual.html

nwhitfield - thanks for the tip on auto resume as standard.

Mycygresume - this tap means that the resume happens without you pressing anything, thats not standard (yet).

MyStuff (+eit2mei) - EPG, used JAGs switched to MyStuff as layout of EPG nicer. Other excellent alternatives exist but you must replace the standard one (else go insane), the best ones allow you to store a word search so the box records programs automatically if the title looks like the text you specify, which is invaluable by itself.

UKOzSurfer - Makes the Picture in picture useful !

TF5000 Display - makes the front LED display vastly more useful.

Power Manager - turns the box off for the night when I forget to do so.

You need to download the manual. That'll tell you how to set things up to get EPG information.

Hey Manikm,

Your going to need eit2mei TAP as well to aid "MyStuff" in filling in the guide. Have a look at the "MyStuff" manual, it does seem a lot to take in initially, but persevere. Once you have setup the options to your own preference, you'll see why its very popular. I personally can't see past it! You will not be disappointed!

Re the skins- suggest you take one step at a time, do the skins once your happy with everything else. I quite like the default skin anyway.

Have fun

If you have a PC easily connectable you also have the option of feeding mystuff from the radio times data. I have mine networked so I load radio times but still run eit2mei which is ignored by mystuff unless the radio times data isn't there.

Nice thing about radio times data is you get good descriptions, genre (for other taps), film ratings etc.

If you use MyStuff does it collect the freeview info over night?

It needs a separate 'EPG data gatherer' installed. Seems to work best with eit2mei, which can be configured to grab stuff overnight.

Other EPGs (e.g Jags and EPGNavigator?) have their own gatherer.
