I use Virgin pay as u go (which uses T-mobile network), it seems to be one of the cheapest, the only problem I have had is with the coverage, the signal is poor in some areas. I also use Vodafone with a dual SIM switch for better coverage, but it is quite expensive.

Why O2? Haven't dealt much with customer service though when I have I've never had any problems. Can't fault the network, good coverage locally ,notably better than Orange and pisses right on T-Mobile, while I can't complain about general network performance, sometimes I'll get a "network busy" message when making a call but its only very occasional, around 1 in every 50 calls. I'm not surprised at all why O2 is the clear leader with Orange following behind in a reasonable second, O2 provides a "cheap & cheerful" network without being tacky or cheesy, while Orange has a strong network with good PAYG offers even if its contract offers are taking the pee these days.

Bad Service - all networks will have customers who are not happy with their network. O2 have 16 million 330 thousand and 40 customers (at last publication). If only 0.1% of customers are unhappy this is still over 16 thousand unhappy customers that wont be happy. I reckon the amount of very dissatisfied customers is much, much less than you think.

Crap Network - What part of the network is 'crap'? Bit of a sweeping statement isn't it? I mean how can it be crap when there are over 16million customers using it?

Faults - Let me know what faults and i will tell you what can be done to help.

O2 have had quite a few problems in the last 12months with periods when the network was down. But i think their c/s has improved greatly.

I can only recall two days when there were issues with the network. One of the days it effected random people (not geographic) for roughly 4-6hours. The other time much more recently where a number a base stations went down. Lasting around 6-8 hours.

I have used Orange, O2 (when it was Cellnet), and One2One/T-Mobile - and more recently Virgin Mobile. Technically, I found Orange to be the best network, O2 at the time where I live was un-usable (only had the contract a few weeks), and was with One2One/T-Mobile quite some time. I was very happy with Virgin Mobile - very good value for money, and excellent customer service (by far the best I have recevied) - only occasional technical issues. Free voicemail is also essential - I don't think networks should be allowed to charge for this, or itemised billing like Orange are doing now. However, now Virgin Mobile have merged with NTL, I am seriously considering changing again, probably back to Orange Pay-As-You-Go.

Orange pay as you go for me. 3000 free evening and weekend texts a month to any network and 15p an hour anytime calls to an Orange number of your choice for topping up £15 a month. Beauty is they don;t take the £15 so it stays on your phone as credit

My number should be moved to O2 by tomorrow. Movin from Virgin, not that I dont like the servie on Virgin, in fact its probably the best I've had on a mobile network.
Moving because O2 do the 300 free texts a month with 1MB wap a month, and I text a lot so will save me a lot of money and is a very good deal

I really cant understand how o2 has become so popular. Well i can actually i initially had a genie sim with the 300 free texts a month but got so frustrated with texts not arriving, having network busy messages and such forth that i went back to orange. Admitidley oranges coverages isnt as good as o2s but at least i know that when i have signal everything works as it should do.

As I said on another thread, O2 is the most appalling network. Numerous faults, including...

A rubbish insurance policy - charging me an excess unless I choose not to have a phone for X days.
Awful customer service where on average I have to wait 15 minutes listening to whale music
NO free broadband like Orange (where in effect my line rental would be ten quid a month and not £30 like it would be with O2 - therefore saving me £20 a month for the free 8 Meg connection)
Crap parcel tracking of your order so much so they link to the incorrect DHL web-site on their emails.
Reception is as good as any other network in my area.
If I want to upgrade my handset and it is out of stock, I have to ring back and waste more of my money on an 0870 number which I have to pay for - unlike Orange where it is free - they would not allow me to pre-order. So I have/had the lottery of ringing next time for 20 minutes, not knowing if the handset is in stock or not
The ridiculous rigmorol of quoting your phone number, your full name, address line 1, address line 2, postcode, place of birth, mothers maiden name, and birthday - all to ask a simple question of whether a phone is in stock. Apparently they can't do this without the Spanish inquisition.
O2 is in front because they have cheap deals. This is reflected in the fact that they employ about five people to manage millions of customers.

So, sorry, not for me I'm afraid.

Since o2 is owned by Telefonica(a Spainish company) the Spanish inquistion makes perfect sense

* Most companies have an excess on their insurance. This is an industry standard practise. IF the phone is instock and you phone before the cut off period you wil recieve a phone the next day.
*I would say 15 minutes was the longest you have waited, its certainly not average.
* Orange have only just launched the freebroadband, Orange bought out Wanadoo. O2 have bought out Be Broadband so who knows what the future holds.
*Parcel tracking is done by DHL so its only as good as the service DHL offer. The tracking number is forwarded to you by the warehouse. The link has recently changed to the DHL page as my favourites no longer works. This will be flagged for you.

Since when was a mobile phone network expected to include crap "free" broadband with their contracts.

I expect a mobile phone service from a mobile phone network, not crap quality broadband. I would pay an ISP of my choosing to provide me with better quality broadband.
