The Maxtor hard drive in my PVR has died. I've been keeping it going by regularly removing it from the machine and running Maxtor's Powermax utilities against it. Now it's completely died. I was going to just replace it but have read elsewhere that there may be some firmware loaded to the drive's circuits and that a new blank drive will not function.

Does anyone have experience of replacing a drive on this model? Can I just go ahead and replace the drive or do I ned the firmware. If so, how can I get this onto the drive?
