Hi,

When I set the timer or select which programme I want to record via EPG Guide, it changes over to the channel thats being recorded when recording starts when watching another channel, how can I stop this from occuring?

Also the same happens when watching TV through my Sat box it switches over to the toppy when recording starts.

For example my SAT box is connected to AV1 on TV and Toppy is connected to AV2 on TV. So when watching programmes on AV1 (Sat Box) it switches over to AV2 (Toppy) to the recorded channel. I have to keep on changing the output to AV1 on TV via the remote when these changes occur?

Regards

You sometimes get channel changes due to the tuner selection algorithm not working as well as it should; a couple of TAPs, like ImproBox (€15) or mcgCYRresume (free) will automatically return you to what you were doing when this happens.

The SCART issue is slightly different; the Toppy wakes up fully, and asserts pin 8 on the lead, which some TVs use as a signal to switch over. You may be able to tell the TV not to switch automatically via its own menus - worth a look.

What I did was to fold a small piece of paper over pin 8 on the scart connector. Eh-voila, no auto-switch or unwanted TV wakeup!

I think I once remember reading that there was a posibility of a new firmware loader to change the behaviour of the Toppy switching control to stop the TV switching to the Toppy for a Timer wakeup, does anyone know if this is something Topfield are looking into?

As I understand it, it's the firmware loader that actually makes the scart swith, it would be great if they could take that functionality out of the firmware loader and make the software control scart switching. That way not only could we stop the Toppy switching to scart when a timer recording occurs, but also it would get rid of the 15 seconds of blank screen when the Toppy boots up!

I've also noticed for example that if I have my toppy recording something and I use the STB/TV button to return back to analogue TV, then sometimes the Toppy will switch back for no apparent reason. I'm not 100% sure, but this seems to happen when the aspect ratio switches on the channel being recorded on the Toppy. My solution has been to leave the Toppy on Ch 16 (QVC) as this is always 16:9 !!!

I have no idea at all if they've considered changing the loader behaviour; it's not up there on the list - I don't know if there's even a tool available that allows it to be changed. I'll see if I can find out from the importers.

I wouldnt be suprised if it is posible nigel. The hummy and the toppy are so similar in many respects (many toppy people are ex humax too) and some dodgy scart behaviour like this was changed with a new loader recently for the hummy. But its only possible via direct PC connection not OTA.
