REM to headline Glasto?
iain
24-10-2002
Apparently (according my g/f - presumably from Radio 1 today?) Mike Figgis has today announced that REM will headline next years Glasto.

Nothing about it at www.efestivals.co.uk or on the bbc site (not extensive research I know!).

Did anyone else hear this today? Is it a definite?

Do you mean Michael Eavis, Mike Figgis is a film director isn't he?
It would make sense since their album will be out next year so it will be good promotion. I have seen them 3 times in concert and they ARE the world's greatest group.

I remember watching them on the box in 99 (I know, not quite the same) and they looked amazing then. My brother came back from that festival and said that REM were the best act he's seen. As he's done a lot of security at Glasto he's seen quite a few.

I really hope they are there next year and if its true I can't wait!

I did, yes. oops. I forgot I had to Mike's with surnames ending in *is* in my head to choose from.

I still regret not going to see them at the Barrowlands in Glasgow on the Green Tour (a friend had a spare ticket, but I had an exam the next morning, and in a moment of madness went for the sensible)

Eventually saw them on the Monster Tour - great as they were the general feeling that day was the amazing length of the list of songs they hadn't played, which was a shame.

Still, despite their demise from where they were *Out of Time* era, the last few albums have been really underrated IMHO, and would love to see them again.
